This classic Japan route follows the paths of merchants and samurai, balancing major cities with quieter stretches of countryside. Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Nagoya are paired with time on the Nakasendo, Japan’s old highway through forested post towns.

The pace is deliberately measured. You’ll move by train, on foot and occasionally by back road, with nights in ryokan and time to experience traditions up close, without feeling rushed. Big names are included, but so are the places in between, where daily life still sets the rhythm.

Food, performance and craft shape the journey, from Osaka’s street level eating culture to Kyoto’s performing arts, with space for detours shaped around your interests.
