St Andrews

BB Guide Ken Hanley had to get up a long ladder to get this magnificent shot of St Andrews. Home of Scotland's oldest university, golf and the centre of Scottish religion at one time - it makes the perfect small town to visit.

Union Terrace Gardens, Aberdeen
heading up to the North east of Scotland then don't miss a tour of Aberdeen city. BB guide Fiona Mackenzie kindly snapped this on a recent tour as she passed through union terrace Gardens.

Rua Reidh Lighthouse.
Run Reid’s is one of Scotland’s most remote lighthouses near Gairloch in Wester Ross. It looks out over the Minch to the Isle of Skye, the Shiant Isles and the Outer Hebrides. Building was started by David Alan Stevenson in 1908 and the light was first lit on 15 January 1912. This was a fabulous walk with Blue Badge guide Fraser Parkinson leading the way.

Restless Natives on South Uist .
Blue Badge Bryan Hogg was travelling through the glorious South Uist when he stopped to say hello to some locals. Winding the window down they got very friendly!

The Kelpies

‘Duke’ and ‘Baron’ - The Kelpies are 98 feet high and weigh 300 tonnes each. These fabulous horses heads were designed by sculptor Andy Scott. The name Kelpies refers to the mythical shape shifting beasts from Scottish mythology. They stand at the eastern gateway of the Forth and Clyde Canal, which meets the River Carron at this point. Well done to guide Ken Hanley for getting this elevated shot.

View from The Quiraing, Skye.
The Trotternish Ridge on the Isle of Skye is undoubtedly one of Scotland's most dramatic landscapes. The great landslips created its rocky pinnacles and steep cliffs which attract many visitors and each year. This snap was taken earlier this year by one of our Blue Badge Guides preparing for the coming season - and it looks to be a busy one for the Scottish Tourist Guide Association's Green and Blue accredited and qualified guides

The sky’s the limit on Tiree
Our island hopping Blue Badge guide was on the beautiful island of Tiree when she saw this beautiful skyscape. It is described as a low lying island and is the most westerly island of the Inner Hebrides group. With a population of 650 it’s a fantastic place to get away from it all.

Remote Scottish Glen - Glencoe!!
It may have been remote at one time but the wonderful Glencoe allegedly attracts around 2 million visitors a year! It is certainly one of Scotland's most scenic glens and our very own Pauline Corrigan was passing through on tour under bright blue skies the other day. Just gorgeous.

Abbotsford House, Scottish Borders

Abbotsford House was built as the residence of historical novelist and poet Sir Walter Scott between 1817 and 1825. Scott gathered a large library, a collection of ancient furniture, arms and armour, and other relics and curiosities which can all be viewed on a visit. Built into the exterior wall is the old door to the Edinburgh Tolbooth. Our Blue Badge Guide Eleanor Forrest captured the exterior of the house in this view.

Nature's Map of Scotland
The A87 road winds to the western highlands and on route offers a view over Loch Garry but look carefully and the quirky perspective of the Loch reveals a map of Scotland. Ken Hanley was touring on the road and captured this interesting view. At one time these lands were held by Clan MacDonnell of Glengarry but this has changed since the days of the '45. They were a branch of the Clan Donald.

Fingal's Cave, Island of Staffa.
The cave is made of wonderfully formed hexagonal columns of solidified lava - basalt - and is located off the coast of the island of Mull. Can you spot the adventurous visitors to the cave which is owned by The National Trust for Scotland. There is even a nice snap from our guide of the interior. The hero Fingal appears in the epic Ossian poems of the 18thC poet/historian James McPherson and the name stuck!
