Not long after his recent trip to Dominica, Graham Tyte soon found himself back in the Caribbean; this time visiting the wonderful island of Tobago. We all know Tobago has excellent diving, but there is so much more this gem of an island has to offer.

As well as diving, Graham hiked through rainforests, visited historic sites and remote beaches, checked out lots of hotels and resorts, learnt to make chocolate and to roast coffee beans, sailed to offshore reefs, kayaked through bioluminescent waters at night, went birdwatching - and even got to hand feed hummingbirds.

Whether your interests are diving, surfing, birding or hiking, Tobago has something for everyone and is highly recommended. Get in touch with us if you would like to see this beautiful island for yourself.

We are incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of Steve Harcher. Steve was a guest of ours on many trips around the world since the Scuba Tours days and was a huge manta fan. We met up with him at numerous dive shows and he was incredibly supportive of our new venture and always good fun to be around, a top top guy. It was great to see him last Summer in Suffolk and looking so well. We are all shocked by the news and are going to miss him terribly. Our condolences to all of his family and friends. RIP Steve

The Caribbean island of Dominica has so much to offer and our Graham has spent the past week packing in as many adventures as he can whilst there. Hiking through lush rainforests and narrow gorges to beautfil waterfalls, bathing in hot natural springs, diving the coral reefs, and, of course, enjoying the local food and drink! Fort Young Hotel is the perfect base to explore this wonderful island and there is no better way to end such a trip than a stay at the luxurious resort of Secret Bay. Our very own Matt and Anne-Marie Kitchen-Wheeler are just back from a fabulous trip on Emperor Voyager, and are now greatly looking forward to the special 14 night charter joining the boat on 1st March 2025, which will be heading north to the quieter atolls, away from the crowds of the central and southern Maldives during peak season. The routing will travel north to visit the less-visited manta points on the west side of Raa atoll and the amazing thilas of the northern atolls, where you can see incredible soft corals, huge coral formations and hopefully some of the less-sighted shark species including Zebra and scalloped hammerheads. Also expected are spotted and bowmouth guitar sharks, and healthy populations of grey sharks, in their natural environment of channel mouths and visiting cleaning stations, as well as the colourful schools of fish and little things which are always found throughout the atolls. MV Emperor Voyager has had a refurbishment to improve the cabins and public spaces and welcomes Salaam as boat manager, who had previously worked on other boats in the Maldives Emperor fleet. Chris has just got back from his East African adventure and had an amazing time in the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. All of these experiences can be booked through Great Escapes courtesy of Jewel Safaris Africa and we will shortly be adding plenty of safari options to our website. These photos should inspire you to visit!

I had a fantastic time at Golden Rock Resort, Dive & Nature Resort - St. Eustatius Here are some of the highlights from my trip, and recommendations for must-do activities on the island.

Hike the Quill volcano – this is a must-do. Hot and sweaty, yes, but well worth the climb to reach the rim and to gaze into the crater to see the incredible and lush rainforest.

Go diving – of course you must! The marine park here is larger than the island itself and the diving was a mix of very healthy coral reefs and wrecks. Fish numbers are high and so many turtles!

Historical tour of the capital town, Oranjestad – this island has so much history! With no customs rules enforced at the time, it became known as the Golden Rock by traders during the 17th and 18th Century. The dark side of this free trading meant that the island was to become infamous for the trading of contraband and slaves.

Enjoy the resort – how could you not! This is a stunning resort, set within 40 acres of beautiful gardens, with two restaurants and two pools. A perfect place to relax, eat amazing food and to watch the hummingbirds buzzing around the flowers and plants.

It is great to be here at Golden Rock Resort, Dive & Nature Resort - St. Eustatius. If you are looking for something a bit different in the Caribbean then this might just be it. St Eustatius - or just Statia as it is known by locals - is a hidden gem in the Caribbean. An island with a small population of around 4500 that has avoided mass tourism to offer a true and authentic slice of the Caribbean.

Statia's landscape is dominated by the Quill; a 600m high dormant volcano now covered in lush rainforest, which is the backdrop to the Golden Rock Dive & Nature Resort - a contemporary resort, set within 40 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens.
