After plenty of trips, a few mistakes, and some lessons learned the fun way… these are travel habits I genuinely swear by.
1. Switch to destination time immediately
If I’m flying somewhere and it’ll be nighttime when I land, I act accordingly. Stay awake if needed, sleep if it makes sense, and get your body clock moving early. It really helps beat jet lag.
2. Noise-cancelling headphones are worth every penny
Planes are full of noises you can’t control. Engines, chatter, and yes… occasionally a baby finding its voice. Babies can’t help it. But you can help whether you hear it.
3. Always have your arrival sorted
Transfers booked, hotel confirmed, know where you’re going. Tired, jet-lagged you arriving somewhere new at 10pm will be very grateful to organised earlier you.
4. Don’t overpack your itinerary
Leave space for discovery. Some of the best moments happen unexpectedly. I ended up doing Rainbow Mountain in Peru on a whim because plans changed, and it became one of the highlights of the whole trip.
5. Do one thing you’ll remember forever
Not every day needs to be packed, but every trip should have one standout moment. A safari, a private boat trip, a special meal, a helicopter ride, something that becomes the story you tell afterwards.
Travel should be exciting, not exhausting.
