I’m Dean, the Brand & Design Manager at One Traveller. I recently had the chance to experience One Traveller’s North Adriatic Cruise for myself, and I kept a little diary of the places, people and moments that made the trip special.
Northern Adriatic Cruise
Dean’s Diary: Day 5
Day 5 started in the sort of way that makes you question why anyone ever gets out of the Adriatic.
We stopped in a beautiful little cove for a swim, and the water was something else.
You could see right down to the seabed beneath you, fish moving below, sunlight flickering through the water, and that calm blue of the Adriatic all around the boat. The crew got the lilos and paddle boards out, snorkels were available too, and before long people were floating, swimming, paddling and generally making the most of it.
I had a little float about on a lilo, which was rather pleasant.
Simple joys, but memorable ones.
After the swim stop, we headed into Zadar, and this was a really interesting change of pace. A busier place, with more people, more life, and plenty to explore.
I had some free time before the guided tour, so I wandered into the old town and started getting a feel for the place. Roman stones underfoot, old buildings all around, little streets, cafés, restaurants, souvenir shops, and that lovely mix of history and holiday atmosphere.
Later, we had a guided walk around Zadar, which gave us more of the story behind the city. Roman influence, old streets, churches, architecture, and plenty of useful little details. A relaxed pace too, enough to feel like you were seeing the sights and learning without being marched around like a platoon of soldiers.
We went down to the harbour to hear the sea organ, a unique architectural musical instrument that produces harmonious sounds powered by the movement of the sea.
What a quirky and brilliant thing that is.
Waves doing their own performance while everyone stands there listening.
Then came dinner in a local restaurant.
And goodness me, nobody was leaving hungry!
Bruschetta to start, then pork, vegetables, salad, drinks included, and a dessert that looked a bit like millefeuille but was thicker and the cream set more like the consistency of custard.
It was delicious and very representative of the meals eaten across Croatia.
There was also time for a drink and a chat with some of the other gents, which was a really nice part of the evening. Sometimes it’s those small moments that make the holiday feel more connected. Sitting in a bar, talking, laughing, getting to know people a little better.
We ended the evening with a walk back along the harbour.
