Principles of overtaking, "If you're going to take off, have somewhere to land".
Yesterday we were faced with 2 separate incidents where lorries were overtaking cyclists as we came around bends. We'd positioned early which gave us more time to react and we gave up our position for safety. Be careful out there everyone, cyclists included. That's why I teach the 6 S principles including Space management and appropriate Speed

In our pilot study in Dorset, 80% of those motorcyclists who were killed or critically injured, could have avoided being in a collision altogether, had they had the skills and awareness taught on BikeSafe and advanced riding courses. The challenge is raising this awareness amongst motorcyclists, many of whom have been riding for years and “know how to ride a bike”.

Police motorcyclists are amongst the most skilful riders on our roads. They also have the greatest awareness of why motorcyclists crash and how to avoid it; but being the police, people are often less keen to approach them.

Doctors, paramedics and particularly those who work on air ambulances are not only approachable, but people are keen to chat to them, often acting as a magnet at large biking events. Supported by motorcycling volunteers who have experience of BikerDown and BikeSafe courses, your role is to encourage motorcyclists to participate in a course that will help to reduce the chances of them being in a collision in the future.

Hydration was the order if the day today, with Paul joining me on a 1 to 1 bespoke couse to familiarise himself with his new ride and cover some positioning, cornering and throttle balance to get the bast from his new bike. A totally brilliant day and a transformation of his ability between this morning and end of play ride. , , , , ,

Back out doing some road riding today and helping Claire get over some concerns she had with principles of cornering and general rider development covering a load of various topics. She made great improvements through the day and will take these skills into her riding future. We found this old AA box on our travels. , , , , , , ,
