Incredible views of an Artic Skua harassing a Common Tern. Both visitors to our patch. The Terns feed on bait fish by plunge diving and the Skua harasses the Tern to cause regurgitation of the Terns meal.
As we move to late summer and autumn we get all sorts of visiting birds. A great time to visit.

Unfortunately it’s blowing up from the east today so I made the decision to cancel sailings. Passenger safety and comfort is my highest priority so please don’t question my decisions. Even if it doesn’t look too bad from shore, I’m looking at tidal flows, wind strength/direction and wave hight/ time periods. Just because it’s warm and sunny doesn’t necessarily mean it’s ok to sail.
Most people are fully understanding but I had someone this morning attempting to challenge my decision. I will only go to sea if I am 100% confident it’s safe to do so. Sometimes I make last minute decisions as forecasts can’t always be reliable. I understand it’s disappointing but safety first.

Bit of a mixed week, some days quiet some days spectacular!
Risso’s showed up a few times. Guillemots and Manx Shearwater have thinned to low numbers but have had a few Skua and Mediterranean Gulls make an appearance. Common Dolphins have been in and out.
Hopefully we will get more consistent sightings this week. 🤞
