🦆 If you’re staying at Drake Cottage and fancy stretching your legs, you’re in luck — the 🥾 walking around here is incredible.

One of the reasons it’s so well looked after is thanks to the Severn Gorge Countryside Trust, a brilliant local charity that manages around 700 acres of the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site (that’s about 250 football pitches!).

They’ve done an amazing job of creating and maintaining miles of waymarked paths through woodlands, meadows, and old industrial heritage sites — weaving through places like Ironbridge, Coalbrookdale, Jackfield, and Broseley. Whether you’re after a gentle stroll or something a bit more adventurous, there’s something for everyone.

Even better, the Trust has put together a bunch of FREE downloadable walking leaflets to help you plan your route. You can grab them online, or if you’re already out and about, pick them up from the Ironbridge Visitor Centre, the leaflet dispenser in Station Road Car Park, or directly from the Trust.

We absolutely love having this right on the doorstep of the cottage.

☀️ The sun was out this weekend in the Ironbridge Gorge and Jackfield had a lovely busy buzz about it.

🌺 We added some spring pots in the front garden at Drake to add a little colour when welcoming our guests.

Come down and have a wander down the High Street, Tontine Hill and The Wharfage and enjoy live music, heritage skills, stalls, street entertainment and more. As the road will be closed it’s the perfect opportunity to browse the shops and then watch the world go by from one of the cafes or pubs.

The park and ride bus will operate between the Jiggers Bank car park and Wharfage car park.

The road will be closed between the Wharfage car park entrance (car park will be open) and the roundabout at the bottom of Madeley Road, from 8am to 6pm.

The Footprint Gallery and Jackfield Village Hall host two art fairs this weekend representing artisans and printmakers from around the area.

Jackfield is increasingly recognised as the ‘Creative Quarter’ of the Ironbridge Gorge - it’s the original home of many of the decorative artisan skills that were associated with the industrial production of ceramic wares throughout the Industrial Revolution.

The spirit of the artisan is alive and well today in the area - from the artists still working at Coalport and at the Tile Museum to shops and studios at The Maws Craft Centre and Fusion.
