The Trip
The trip lasts for one and a half hours which gives you loads of time to catch plenty of mackerel for those summe
r evening BBQ’s. With highly experienced skippers, Roger, Lisa and Alan who have over 80 years’ combined experience in the fishing and maritime industry, commercially and for pleasure, on the RNLI and with expert local knowledge of the best fishing spots. After a 5 – 10-minute boat ride to a local fishing hotspot you will be guided and instructed on how to use the equipment provided, we use a traditional method of boat fishing and use feathered lures to attract the mackerel. However, we do catch other species of fish such as sea bass, gurnard, dogfish and even squid. Whatever you catch you are able to keep, you can ask any member of the crew to give you a demonstration on how to prepare the fish for cooking. Mackerel fishing is perfect for beginners and the whole family. The Boats
The Seren Y Môr is an Ex Liverpool class single screw lifeboat formally named the Frank and William Oates. The Frank and Wiliam Oates was originally stationed at Eyemouth from 11/3/1937 to 12/12/1951. During her time in Eyemouth she launched 17 times and saved a total of 9 lives. She was later sold in 1964, was renamed the Seren Y Môr (Star of the sea) and came to Tenby. From 1964 onwards she carried passengers back and fore Caldey Island for 40 years. She was again sold to a local fisherman to become a mackerel fishing boat, for many years the Seren Y Môr has done daily mackerel trips from early April to mid September. The Seren Y Môr, Blue Fin and The Patriot carry all lifesaving equipment onboard and are inspected annually to ensure they are kept within strict UK Coastguard Regulations.
