What a way to end the week!

Huge congratulations to the team at Madikwe Safari Lodge on being awarded the Condé Nast Traveller Triple Crown: a brand new honour for the select few properties to have appeared across all three of the magazine’s flagship awards over the past 30 years. 👑 👑 👑

What an achievement, to be recognised across the board by experts, travel editors and of course travellers (thanks to all our wonderful, loyal guests who voted!) alike places this special place among an inaugural collection of fewer than 30 lodges and hotels in all of Africa!

🙌 🍾 🥳 🎉 👏 🥂🩷

We end the week with an attitude of gratitude! 🙏 the beautiful smile in the pic below says it all!

A visit to a local Maasai or Samburu village hits different at Ol Lentille. It's less about observation and more about participation, genuine immersion and interaction.

It's about getting a taste and insight into an ancient way of life in an authentic and respectful manner. And sometimes, getting your hands dirty...as Leanne and Laura experienced first hand when they chipped in to help some Maasai ladies build a new house.

Zambia’s South Luangwa isn’t known as the “Valley of the Leopards” by chance 🐆

With its dense riverine forests, ancient ebony groves, and the life-giving Luangwa River weaving through the landscape, this is the perfect stage for Africa’s most elusive big cat.

Here, leopards thrive — draped over branches by day, melting into the shadows by night, and seen more frequently than almost anywhere else on the continent.

It’s not just luck — it’s habitat, prey density, and generations of expert guiding that make every sighting feel like a privilege, not a promise.

This is where the wild reveals its secrets… if you’re patient enough to look.

We cannot wait to welcome you to our new lodge and this wildlife hot spot when we open in mid July!

Indaba 2026 provided the perfect opportunity for our team to go an experience some of our partner properties first hand.

Tracey and Laura were lucky enough to visit The Old Rectory by Rare Earth Retreats - and explore a bit around Plett.

It is one of the town’s most historic buildings, dating back to 1777 - originally built by the Dutch East India Company as army barracks. Over the years, it has morphed many times over - from being troop accommodation to a rectory for Anglican clergy, and even a school before it became a private residence.

Careful restoration finally saw it converted into a boutique hotel that oozes heritage and character. As Plett’s oldest surviving building, it offers guests a rare chance to stay inside a living piece of South African history.
