A very belated Happy New Year to all the Mull Magic walkers, friends and followers.

The Mull Magic scheduled walking tours will commence on 29th March which just so happens is the official start of British Summer Time. Fingers crossed for some good walking weather.

I’m still doing private tours during the Winter months, so please get in touch if you’d like to see some of Mull’s wonderful wildlife and scenery.

We enjoyed a true wilderness walk in the hills above Lochbuie yesterday. A tad windy at times, but the landscapes and scenery on the South of Mull are amongst the finest on the island.

The weather is always changing. Moody, atmospheric, spiritual and sometimes soaking wet! The elements haven’t stopped our enjoyment of the Mull wildlife with fabulous sightings this week of otters, eagles, wild goats, seals, Red deer and some beautiful wading birds.

The sunshine is back and we’ve encountered some rather beautiful flowers on the recent mountain walks.

The pink flower is Hairy stonecrop, so called as its reddish coloured leaves are covered in tiny hairs.

The solitary white flower, Arctic sandwort favours rocky knolls, fine scree and mountain ridges. This plant seems to be in dramatic decline so it was a special day to encounter this for the first time.

The cluster of white flowers, Northern Rock-cress, was another rare find. But even rarer is the moth that feeds on it, Plutella haasi. It took over 2 hours of searching to find this tiny moth. A very special day for Mull Magic.

Apologies for the lack of posts, it’s been a hectic few months and the Mull Magic walks are proving very popular again this year. It’s been fantastic to see so many returning guests, I really appreciate the continued support.

I’ve had a good sighting rate on both my Otter Detective and Eagle Walks, which has made for very happy guests. The prolonged spell of good weather at the start of the season meant that I haven’t had many days off, although July has not started well with some bad flooding on Mull today.

Training a new puppy, plus helping to survey the island’s Golden eagles, rare plants and moths has taken up a significant amount of my free time. Hopefully, I will now be able to get back to posting about our Mull Magic experiences on a more regular basis.

As you can see from this photo taken a couple of days ago, the new pup is fully trained and able to help out with a bit of research work under supervision from his more experienced colleague!

Although I’m a dog lover, I’m aware that not everyone is, and so, unfortunately, I cannot allow dogs on my scheduled walks. However, I am happy for guests to bring their dog along if they have a private booking.

It was Morvern Magic yesterday! We took the short crossing over the Sound of Mull and spent the day exploring some highland hills. There were spectacular views of Mull’s Munro, Ben More, above the cloud inversion.

Another beautiful day out with my guests from Yorkshire. All the iconic Isle of Mull wildlife was very obliging, and so was the weather.

Much colder days now, so if you’re coming along on a walking tour this Winter, don’t forget warm clothing, lots of layers, and hat and gloves.

After a long Ptarmigan drought, today was our lucky day. No stunning vistas from the mountain tops, due to the low cloud, but we were rewarded for our exertions with these spectacular views on the descent.

We’re making the most of the spectacular weather, seeing as there’s snow forecast for the mountain tops next week!

We had a private tour on Wednesday, across the water to Lochaline and the Ardtornish Estate. It was a stunning, easy, nine mile walk along the loch to Ardtornish Castle, once the principal seat of the Clan Donald.

Although the busy visitor season starts to slow down in October, I’ll be doing private tours and the Otter Detective Walk all Winter. Please get in touch if you need further information.

The season is flying by and we’ve had some incredible wildlife walks, despite the challenging weather at times.

The Otter Detective Walk is still my most popular tour and we’ve had great sightings on most of the walks this year.

Many thanks to Luca and family who sent me this iPhone video from their recent Mull Magic Walk.
