Now and then, we turn the pages of the guest book and find little stories waiting for us—snapshots of moments, favourite corners, and unexpected adventures.
It’s these shared discoveries that often send future guests off in new directions, chasing sunsets or stumbling upon secret spots.
To everyone who takes a moment to write them—thank you. You leave more than words; you leave a trail for others to follow ✨💛

A little selection of recent notes from guests. I know you all love reading them when you stay and often change your plans because you’ve read something that’s recommended in the guest book.

I knew as soon as I approached the gate what had happened. They had fledged: The constant shrill chatter of more than twenty swallows echoed around the courtyard. I was so relieved to see they’d made it and not fallen out of their nest, or their nest fallen off the rafters, I sat like a statue for a few minutes admiring their aerobatics. Life is perilous as a wild animal. No sooner had I left them in peace and a hissing sound followed but screeching swept past my head as I looked up a hawk carrying a baby away followed by the whole flock shouting. Nature is a cruel master.

First cut of Dahlias this year. This is Bishop of York, cheerful single yellow flowers and lush dark foliage. I’ve taken to using the ample herbs in the garden - now flowering - with the cut flowers; smells amazing! Here zingy yellow dill and white oregano.
