Get those surf boards out 🏄♂️ 🌊 🏄♂️ 🌊
Good morning Kernow! 🌤️
Comments turned off.
Cornwall is waking up to one of those days where the sky can’t quite decide what outfit to wear, a bit of grey cloud here, a splash of blue there, and every now and then the sun peeks out like it’s checking whether the coast is clear before shining properly. Most of Cornwall, is staying on the dry side for now, but if you’re out west, especially near the Lizard, keep your raincoat handy a few showers are popping up on the radar, and they look like they mean business. Heavy, sharp, and the sort that could soak you before you’ve even muttered “Oh, it’s only spitting.” 🌧️
Now, let’s talk about the real star of the show, the sea. The buoys are currently reporting some pretty beefy swells, and for the surfers among us, it’s looking like a day to wax up the board (or for the rest of us, to watch safely from the cliffs with a hot pasty in hand). These waves are only set to get bigger as the day goes on:
🌊 Sevenstones Light Vessel 4.9m swell (that’s nearly the height of a double-decker bus rolling towards you!)
🌊 Perranporth Waverider 4.1m swell (solid and building good luck paddling through that).
🌊 Porthleven 2.2m swell (smaller, but still packing a punch).
And remember, swells this size aren’t just good for dramatic photos they’re also a reminder to respect the sea. She’s beautiful, but she doesn’t take prisoners.
💡 Did you know? Swells measured out at sea are often bigger than the waves that actually reach the shore. By the time they roll in, local tides, winds, and the shape of the seabed all help decide whether it’s a surfer’s dream or a soggy wipeout waiting to happen.
So, in short, it’s a mixed bag today: brighter skies for many, showers for the far west, and some monster waves on the horizon.
🐾 Smudge & Gus’s Weather Verdict:
Smudge says: “Bright spells mean good sniffing weather, but I’ll be giving those West Cornwall showers the side-eye.” 🐕
Gus says: “Waves nearly five metres? You won’t catch me swimming in that! I’ll be sticking to puddles, thank you very much.” 🐾
Stay safe, stay dry (unless you’re a surfer), and enjoy the drama of the Cornish skies and seas today!
Kind regards,
KWT Dave 🌦️
