On the last day of 2024, here are our two favourite pictures of the year, from in and around - in the annual countdown from Sheringham Old Boathouse.

Number #2: 2CV or not 2CV. The beach next door at Weybourne, makes an artificial horizon for fishing boats and visitors alike.

Number #1: First or last light? The timeless view from our coastline - in which during summer, the sun both rises and sets over the sea.

We very much hope that you have enjoyed these photographs.

To visitors old and new, you would be very welcome to come and enjoy these sights for yourself: https://www.norfolkcottages.co.uk/cottage/oc-17136-the-old-boathouse

To our guests and to all our friends and neighbours in Sheringham, we wish you a very Happy New Year.

See the wide expanse of sandy beach, as we reach the penultmate day of our top ten pictures of the year from in and around .

Number #4: Take a trip along the coast and then a boat out to experience the spectacular beauty of Scolt Head Island and Nature Reserve.

Number #3: Or simply wait for the receding tide in Sheringham itself, to reveal a long stretch of golden sand from beneath the waves.

Don't forget your bucket and spade when you visit! https://www.norfolkcottages.co.uk/cottage/oc-17136-the-old-boathouse

Number #6: The official unveiling ceremony of the new 'Mammoth Mural' on the sea wall - the product of three years' painstaking work by local community artists.

Number #5: Moonlight reflected on the sea, in front of the Promenade, illuminated by rather more artificial means.

Our top ten pictures of the year from in and around , continues today by celebrating the culinary treat of local seafood.

Number #8: The giant deckchairs at Rocky Bottoms, where the local catch is turned in to fine dining - with inside or outside eating - on the cliff to the East of Sheringham.

Number #7: Taste locally smoked fish at Manor Farm Barns in the village of Glandford - where this statuette shows both the health-giving quality of the kipper and that it represents the ultimate in renewable energy!

Between Christmas and New Year, we always post our favourite photographs of the year, showing what an incredible place is for holidays and leisure.

This year we start with what beautiful walking country we enjoy.

Number Ten is a Springtime walk at neighbouring Burnham Overy Staithe, in which if you look carefully, you can see an old boat overgrown by the grassland.

Number Nine is an Autumn walk in the Great Wood - ancient woodland at one of our local National Trust properties, Blickling Hall & Estate, home of Anne Boleyn.

More tomorrow....!

We are delighted to announce the unveilling of reproductions of original paintings and drawings by local artists Tom Armes (1894-1963) and Mick Bensley (1944-2023) of 1, The Old Boathouse in Lifeboat Plain, Sheringham. The artwork is now displayed in the original premises which it portrays, converted from a former boatbuilders into a premier, fully modernised holiday rental property. The pictures portray the building's earlier usage as the Emery family boatbuilders, from around 1850 to the 1960s.

We are very grateful to Tom Armes' son and to the late Mick Bensley who gave permission for the reproductions, to Lisa Little and Tim Groves at Sheringham Museum for assisting with the copies and to Chris Dyer of North Walsham, who undertook the expert reproduction.

If you choose to rent our accommodation for the very best of seaside holidays in North Norfolk, you will enjoy this latest edition to a property, which combines both comfort and history.

Fantastic to be present at the unveilling today of the 29 metre (95 feet) mural on 's East Promenade to highlight the special archaeological history of our 'Deep History coast'. This astonishing piece of public art, produced by local community artists in conjunction with local schools and businesses, commemorates the discovery of the world's oldest and the U.K.'s largest ever mammoth skeleton, found on the beach nearby.

Our visitors to Sheringham can enjoy fossil-hunting from Ice Age times, where remains of rhinos, hyaenas, wolves and bears have also been found locally.

Congratulations to the fantastic community artist Colin Seal and everyone involved in Sheringham Art who have undertaken this project. Please buy artworks from local artists involved at https://www.sheringham.art and do consider joining them!
