As a mother of an autistic child our latest guests comments really touched me 🤗

As we only have one let on our 610 acre farm you have the space and freedom to be you and let the kids run and shout.

Play the Bluetooth speaker with the girls whilst having a glass. Have fun, relax, chat under the dark skies.

"What can I say, 2nd visit now and it's even more special than the 1st! The boys bow call this their happy place. With 3 autistic and SEN boys this place is whee they can be themselves, with no restrictions and I will forever be grateful us as a family have found Wannies Retreat"

Surely we should all be able to be ourselves? So come and run, shout, sing, talk and have some fun. 🤫 you don't have to be a child to do this, trust me lots of my more mature guests are really good at this....you know who you are! 😂😂

Today, my hard working husband and child labour loving son installed 2 new signs at Wannies Retreat and I absolutely love them!!

The first sign is located by the lawn area looking down the railway line and is a "Wildlife at Wannies Retreat" sign. Our first ever guest Little Flowers by Sligo very kindly sent me 2 pdfs of some wildlife she drew whilst staying with us! A very talented artist, so it was an easy decision to get a sign made up of her talent showcasing some of the amazing wildlife you can see whilst staying with us. 😍🐰🦌🐦‍⬛🐾🦡🦊

The second sign has been placed next to the viewing platform and it is a fantastic photo by Phil Benton Photography. It shows you exactly what hills you are looking at and names them for you (again thanks to my geography loving husband for this!) If you have stayed here I am sure you will agree that the view from Wannies Retreat is pretty special. We have so many guests arrive with all sorts of plans and literally never move from the carriage. With amazing views, a huge outside area, all to yourself (no neighbours) and the option to purchase meat and eggs from the farm why would you need to move?

I think they look fantastic and I hope you like them as much as me when you stay with us.

We are fully booked up for all of the school holidays this year. We have 2 weekends left in December and 2026 bookings are coming in every week. Please get your dates in for next year as I'm saying no to emails for this year on a daily basis!

We are very lucky here at Wannies Retreat to get so many repeat visits from our wonderful guests. Some of our guests, I feel like I have really got to know them, and we have some great chats! Maybe even a drink 🍸 😉

2026 bookings are coming in fast now. We have 48 nights booked in with 18 guests, and 9 of these are reapeat.

Once you have stayed with us, I will give you a discount code, which you can use as many times as you want!

2025 calendar is looking pretty full and the only holiday dates left are 30th and 31st July for the whole year!

On the farm we have started shearing the sheep. We do all of this ourselves (well Dave clips the sheep and I sort the wool and pen up) I always think it's really sad that the wool is worth next to nothing 😢

Tomorrow is a big day as we need to get all of the cattle in for TB testing. This is a routine check thst we have to do every 4 years. Whilst the cattle are in we are also going to test for Johnes (which is interestingly similar to Crohn's disease 💜). Our cattle are in a high health scheme, so we do numerous tests throughout the year.

I can not believe it was 2 years ago that came to stay at Wannies Retreat! I'll never forget receiving the phone call. "Hi Annabel it's Robson Green here, can we come and have a look at your carriage please? We will be there in half an hour" yeah, right! Whatever 😂😂

Sure enough, half an hour later there he was! So I took him to the carriage and luckily we had our friends mother staying for her 70th birthday. Well, she was absolutely made up! She thought we had organised his visit just for her (obviously we let her think that 😉)

Luckily enough he loved it and was back a few weeks later with to stay the night. It was a fabulous experience! He and the crew were here for 24 hours filming and everyone was so friendly 📽🎬

I'll never forget waiting on the night it was to be aired, I was really nervous. I barley do selfies never mind appear on national tv! 🫣 But the response was just amazing. Our usual guests are probably within an hours radius from Wannies Retreat but after being on Robson Green's Weekend Escapes we had bookings coming in from all over the UK 🗺

Special memories to treasure for our family and thank you to all of our guests who came on the back of watching a tv programme.

2026 dates are filling up fast and we only have 2 days left for 2025 school holidays.

I know I say we have the best guests often but oh my goodness we really, really do!!

Strangely Dave and I had 2 child free nights and this weekend we had one of our regular group of guests staying for 3 nights. 2 fabulous couples who are making a stay at Wannies Retreat an annual event (like lots of others do)

We thought we would have a night away at a lovely hotel in Newcastle! I know, crazy!! After a wonderful day at our local County show we headed to Newcastle, via train and after a cheeky cocktail in a bar en route arrived to our very nice hotel room.

Confused I saw an ice bucket with a bottle of fizz and a card next to it. Our guests had called the hotel to arrange to have this put in our room 😳 I am not ashamed to say that I shed a tear. How amazing is that? Honestly I'm still bliwn away by it, so kind.

We had a thoroughly brilliant time together and I think a well deserved little break and 100% we have the BEST guests ever!!!

We all deserve a break, get yours booked in with us now.

We, obviously, get lots of people staying with us who have a keen interest in railways. 🚃 We have lots of books in the carriage about the local area and our local railway heritage, and I'm always on the lookout for anymore.

It was lovely to hear we are in a new book, recently published called The Wansbeck Railway. I have ordered one to go in the carriage but wanted to let everyone know in case they wanted to get one.

Whilst Wannies Retreat is based in a quiet, rural location, there is a fascinating industrial history in the area, iron works, brickworks.... I guess every landscape tells a story 🤔

Moving into Spring – this is when everything comes alive at Wannies Retreat. Our Luing cows have their calves at foot and we go into our busiest time of the year - lambing! We were very proud to help The Toby Henderson Trust recently by gifting a 2 night stay at Wannies Retreat for their charity auction.

The Toby Henderson Trust is a charity supporting autistic children, young people and their families. They offer so many useful resources and help.

Our fantastic son, Finlay has autism (as well as adhd and dyslexia) and it has been a journey to learn how very special he is and what a real super power autism can be.

Here at Wannies Retreat we get lots of neurodiverse young people staying, which I love!! They have the freedom and space to just be themselves. Run, shout, dance. ..whatever they want to do they can do and the grown ups can chill in the knowledge that no one is going to judge. It's quite sad that I have to say that but it really can be the case out in the big wide world.

Education is key and acceptance that we are all individuals and we all have our own little quirks, and that's what makes us special 💜💜

You may have recently spotted our announcement which shared that we raised a grand total of £15,065.00 at our recent Spectrum Ball! The team are immensely proud of how much has been raised but we are also extremely grateful to everyone who made this possible.
