Happy Monday, everyone!

I hope you all had a good weekend. Mine was a chilled one with friends and family, although I was very pleased that I managed to find time to refresh the plants in River House - including this lovely little epiphyllum, courtesy of . Looking forward to seeing this guy grow over the coming months…

Also, it was nice to see Rye - specifically Mermaid Street - get a mention in the travel press, this time courtesy of , in a feature on the prettiest streets in Britain. Another reminder of how lucky we are.

I’m not going to lie - it has been a tough old week, and it is still not the weekend yet… argh 😂

But on the plus side, we received a couple of really lovely reviews. 😍

I am eternally grateful for the love and support we get from our guests. In these difficult times, it is humbling that people choose to spend their hard-earned cash (not to mention their valuable time) staying at River House. Thank you to everyone who chooses us!

Another accolade for wonderful Rye. The outdoor specialists at have named our town as one of the country’s best holiday destinations and the best in the South East. Not only that, but Rye was ranked third in the UK for biking holidays - something the excellent can help you with!

Here is what Go Outdoors said:

“Described as a “stylish cobbled citadel”, Rye is a gorgeous medieval English town near the coast of East Sussex.

Today it is home to several modern boutique hotels, charming cosy pubs and contemporary restaurants that serve the best Sussex has to offer. In addition to this, there are an estimated 3.32 bike tours per 10,000 people that you can take part in and explore the town’s historic streets.
One route we’d recommend is the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, a popular trail for birding, hiking and mountain biking. This 14.6-km circular trail heads out to the 16th-century Camber Castle and Castle Water before continuing on a long coastal path with views out to sea.”

Finally, a chance to sit down with a cup of coffee and read issue #10 of . Especially enjoying the feature on the incredible , including an interview with master sommelier .rhys (who among other things runs brilliant wine tastings at the vineyard’s “Nest”, which I can thoroughly recommend).

Bliss.

Hello everyone!

After an extremely busy end to 2023 (and start of 2024), River House has good availability for the rest of the winter - particularly after the end of January. We can’t promise “winter sun”, but we can guarantee a totally unique experience in a celebrated retro designed home in one of the UK’s prettiest towns.

My love for the 70’s was the inspiration for the interior design of River House - a warm and exciting 3-double bedroomed home. Bold, striking colours, electric disco balls, vintage furniture and many other individual touches throughout the house provide guests with something quite unlike other UK holiday homes.

Set in peaceful surroundings, and just a short stroll from the historic town of Rye East Sussex, the area is blessed with sandy beaches, eclectic shops on cobbled streets, wonderful bars and restaurants, world class vineyards, and countless attractions and events.

Urgh, I am so feeling the customary new year’s bloat, and I am DETERMINED to go for a walk tomorrow to blow away the cobwebs. Even if there is torrential rain, I am taking myself out into it!

One of the best things about Rye is the massive choice of nature spots in the area, ranging from beaches to rivers, woodland to marshland. But one of my favourite places to walk is the fabulous Rye Harbour. There is so much to take in - including the pictured Red Roofed Hut - and I always come home from there feeling more alive than when I left.

Let’s start the year the way we mean to go on!
