Getting up on high ground yesterday to spot for salmon coming in, on a very bright hot morning. There were a few showing and luckily I managed to film this one taunting Willem from France.

I had a large fam booked in for a Wild Walk this morning. Given the hot dry conditions I thought best to walk part of the ground before hand to check for wee beasties. And I found one of my fave said wee beasties. An adder. I’m no expert in reptiles but I think this is a female given her colour and size. Love them. So the idea of me walking the ground first is to gently ask them to leave the trails to avoid them being trod on and someone getting bitten in self defence.

The first of the many. Cooking chanterelles today for Lee and David from San Francisco. The first ones of the season. Cheers for posting about your find yesterday. Otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered looking. They are putting in an appearance 2 weeks earlier than last year…And very tasty they were too..

For the last 4 weeks we’ve been fishing in temps not lower than 15C and up to 24C with little or no wind. Yesterday with Don and Reid it all changed. Temp of 8-10C but with the wind and rain in was bitter. Especially for Don coming from Tennessee. Still had a nice wild brown in the net and a couple of missed chances. Nothing worked but the Clan Chief and Bibio fished just below the top.

Fishing with a lovely couple from Rhode Island today. When quite randomly a woman appeared and just popped in the Loch to wash her hair. In my 25 years of guiding on Skye I thought I’d seen most things..but a first time for everything. 😂

Unfortunately due to an injury I was unable to get to my work today. So I thought I’d have a a walk around our garden to see what’s on offer. We are lucky at home, we have lawns, hedges, trees and a burn ( stream ) such a diverse area with shade, full sun and damp areas and lots of wild food. Some have passed, some are for now and some have yet to come in to season. There are also some lethal plants amongst them which I think will be worthy of a separate post another time.
