✨ Look up, Herefordshire.

June is bringing a spectacular line-up of celestial events to the skies above the County, offering plenty of opportunities for stargazers, astrophotographers, moon bathers, solstice celebrators and families looking to create magical memories beneath some of England's darkest skies.

🌟 Venus and Jupiter Conjunction ('Cosmic Kiss') ~ 8-9 June
The two brightest planets in the night sky will appear exceptionally close together. Look west shortly after sunset and see if you can measure the gap between them. On 9 June, they will appear separated by little more than the width of your little finger held at arm's length.

☀️ Summer Solstice ~ 21 June
Marking the official start of astronomical summer, the solstice brings the longest day and shortest night of the year.

☄️ June Boötids Meteor Shower ~Active 22 June-2 July, peaking around 27 June
Famous for being wonderfully unpredictable, the June Boötids occasionally surprise skywatchers with impressive displays. While the bright moon may reduce visibility this year, there is still every reason to spend an evening beneath Herefordshire's dark skies.

🌕 Strawberry Moon ~ 29 June
Named for the strawberry harvesting season, June's full moon is a beautiful reminder of the connection between the night sky and the rhythms of the land. With June and July marking the peak strawberry harvest, it is a fitting celestial event to enjoy in a County renowned for its countryside, orchards and seasonal produce. Rising low in the sky, the Strawberry Moon can often appear especially large and golden as it climbs above the horizon.

Whether you are introducing young stargazers to the wonders of the night sky, celebrating the solstice, enjoying a moonlit walk, relaxing in a hot tub beneath the stars or hoping to capture the perfect astrophotography shot, June is a fantastic time to discover Herefordshire after dark.

Quadruple Gold for Herefordshire !!!

Herefordshire swept the board at last night’s VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, taking home more Gold Awards than any other region in England.

In an extraordinary result for the county, Herefordshire businesses secured four Gold Awards across the categories of Experience of the Year, New Tourism Business of the Year, Taste of England Award and Travel Content alongside Bronze Awards in both the Camping, Glamping and Holiday Park of the Year and another Bronze for Travel Content.

The awards ceremony, held at Bristol’s Aerospace Museum, brought together tourism businesses from across England, with finalists receiving Gold, Silver or Bronze in each category presented by journalist and broadcaster Sean Fletcher.

For Herefordshire, it was a night to remember.

The success is even more remarkable given that Visit Herefordshire has been running its own regional awards programme for just two years, highlighting the exceptional quality, innovation and passion that exists across the county’s tourism sector.

A huge congratulations to all our winners. You have put Herefordshire firmly in the national spotlight.

GOLD New Tourism Business of the Year: One Acre Wood

GOLD Taste of Herefordshire: Carriages Restaurant, Whitestone

GOLD Experience of the Year: Oldfield Forge, Garway

GOLD Travel Content : Rhiannon Batten, The Guardian - Herefordshire’s food safari

BRONZE Camping, Glamping and Holiday Park of the Year: Kaya at Blackhill Farm

BRONZE Travel Content: Chris Leadbeater, The Telegraph - Weobley’s starring role in Hamnet

From Herefordshire to the national stage 🌟

In just a few days, we will find out where Oldfield Forge, Kaya At Blackhill, Carriages Restaurant and One Acre Wood have placed at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2026.

As we cheer them on ahead of the awards on 3 June, we're reminded that every one of them started with an application to the Visit Herefordshire Tourism Awards.

There are now just a few days left for businesses to enter the Visit Herefordshire Tourism Awards 2026, with the applications stage due to close on 8 June.

The only way a business can be considered by our judges, and potentially progress to the national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, is by submitting an application ahead of the deadline.

Could your business, or a business you love, be next year's finalist?

If you know a business that deserves recognition, encourage them to enter before it's too late.

Herefordshire businesses can apply now:

When the sun is shining, there are few better places to be than Cider Country. Orchards heavy with summer green, rolling countryside, and a cold glass of cider or fresh apple juice enjoyed where it was made.

In Herefordshire, you can explore many of the County’s cideries by bus 🚍 making it easy to slow down, take in the landscape, and enjoy the journey as well as the destination.
