Yesterday, members of the Visit Peak District and Derbyshire team had the opportunity to experience an exciting new immersive multimedia concept being trialled at Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park.

Developed by the team at the Buxton Civic Association, the proof of concept explores how immersive technology could enhance the visitor experience while continuing to protect and celebrate the cave's remarkable natural heritage.

As a charity, Buxton Civic Association is committed to making heritage, the natural world and biodiversity more accessible and engaging for visitors. While the demonstration wasn't designed to tell the story of Poole's Cavern itself, it offered a fascinating glimpse into the potential for a future bespoke experience that could bring the cave's unique history to life in an innovative and memorable way.

It was fantastic to be invited to see the concept in its early stages, and we're grateful for the opportunity to provide feedback. We look forward to seeing how the project develops and wish the team every success as they explore future funding opportunities.

Innovation like this helps keep the Peak District & Derbyshire visitor offer fresh, inspiring and world-class, and we're always pleased to support partners who are investing in the future of our destination.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the Visit Peak District & Derbyshire Members’ Summer Social last night ☀️

It was fantastic to bring together so many of our member businesses for an evening of networking, conversation and collaboration.

The evening began with welcome drinks at Hattersley Wines before we headed to the Thornbridge Brewery Taproom for refreshments, pizza and the chance to catch up with colleagues from across our visitor economy.

A special thank you to our hosts for helping to make the evening such a success.

Our members are at the heart of everything we do. Your continued support and investment through membership enables us to champion the Peak District and Derbyshire as a world-class destination, promote the region to new audiences, and support a thriving, sustainable visitor economy.

Yesterday was a wonderful reminder of the power of partnership with Visit Peak District and Derbyshire proudly representing our destination both here in Derbyshire and in London with guests from China.

Our Managing Director, Jo Dilley, was delighted to be in London representing Visit Peak District & Derbyshire at the "Beautiful Anhui Engages with the World" tourism promotion event, alongside Patricia Yates, CEO of VisitBritain, Kathryn Davis FTMI, CEO of Visit West, and tourism leaders from across the UK and China.

The event celebrated the enduring friendship between the Peak District & Derbyshire and Anhui Province; a relationship we have been proud to develop since 2023 through our knowledge transfer partnership. Thanks to the dedication and support of Dennis Hu of Make it China, this collaboration continues to create exciting opportunities for tourism, cultural exchange and shared learning.

It was especially encouraging to continue conversations about future collaborations, including potential opportunities to work with Chatsworth on cultural exchanges and exhibitions, helping to showcase Derbyshire's heritage and world-class visitor offer to new international audiences.

At the same time, our Deputy Director, Lindsay Rae, joined colleagues and partners at the Peak District National Park in Bakewell for the launch of the 75th Anniversary Report celebrating the UK's first four National Parks.

It was a privilege to hear inspiring contributions from Mary Creagh CBE MP , Minister for Nature, Andrew McCloy, author of the report, National Parks England, and a representative from the Welsh Government, all reflecting on the extraordinary legacy of our National Parks and their role in shaping our future.

One of the most memorable moments of the afternoon came when Mary Creagh MP, Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward and John Whitby MP for the Derbyshire Dales, led everyone in singing Happy Birthday to the UK's first four National Parks – a fitting and joyful celebration of 75 years of protecting these incredible landscapes that mean so much to so many.

Whether celebrating 75 years of our National Parks or strengthening international relationships that will benefit our visitor economy for years to come, both events reflected something we care deeply about at Visit Peak District & Derbyshire: bringing people together, sharing knowledge and creating partnerships that make a lasting difference.

Thank you to everyone who made both events such a success. We look forward to continuing these conversations and building on these valued relationships.

The latest Visit Peak District and Derbyshire Quarterly Business Sentiment Survey is now open, and we're asking visitor economy businesses across the destination to take a few minutes to share their experiences.

The survey provides vital insight into how our sector is performing, capturing information on recent and anticipated bookings, visitor numbers, and business confidence for the months ahead.

What a wonderful evening at Haddon Hall 🏰

Yesterday evening, Jo Dilley and Lindsay Rae were delighted to attend an inspiring celebration of British craftsmanship, hosted by Lord and Lady Edward Manners.

Our sincere thanks to Lord and Lady Edward Manners for their kind invitation and warm hospitality on such a beautiful summer's evening. It was a privilege to experience an exclusive preview of The Art of Paper exhibition and to hear an engaging discussion on the importance of championing British craft.

Dr James Fox, author of Craftland, introduced his best-selling book before chairing a fascinating discussion on the importance of supporting British craft with panellists including world-renowned horologist Roger Smith OBE; founding chair of Heritage Crafts and master woodturner, Robin Wood MBE; and CEO of QEST, Deborah Pocock LVO

The Peak District and Derbyshire is home to outstanding makers, historic places and unforgettable cultural experiences, and events like this showcase the vital role they play in our visitor economy. We were delighted to be part of such a special occasion.

📢 New Government funding to help visitor economy businesses recruit young talent

The UK Government has announced the launch of the Youth Jobs Grant, giving employers the opportunity to receive £3,000 when they hire eligible young people who have been out of work for six months.

This is a valuable opportunity for businesses across the Peak District and Derbyshire's visitor economy to strengthen their workforce, invest in future talent and support more young people into sustainable employment.

Alongside the grant, the Government has also introduced the Jobs Guarantee, which will provide eligible 18–24 year-olds with a six-month paid job, with the Government covering 100% of employment costs for roles of up to 25 hours per week at the National Minimum Wage. Jobcentres are also expanding the support available to young people, helping connect employers with candidates through jobs, apprenticeships, work experience, vocational training and further education.

The hospitality and tourism sector has already demonstrated its commitment to creating opportunities for young people, with major employers pledging hundreds of new roles through the scheme. Now is a great time for businesses of all sizes to explore how they can benefit.

🇯🇵 Days 2 and 3 of our VisitBritain familiarisation trip for leading luxury Japanese tour operators showcased the outstanding heritage, hospitality, and authentic experiences that make the , and wider such a compelling destination for international visitors.

Our guests explored some of the region’s most iconic attractions, beginning with a guided tour of Haddon Hall, including its magnificent Elizabethan kitchens and the many films and television productions that have brought this historic house to audiences around the world 🎬🏰

The itinerary also included time in the beautiful market town of Bakewell, with visits to The Charleston and The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop, where guests discovered the story behind Derbyshire’s famous Bakewell Pudding.

The afternoon continued with a vineyard tour and wine tasting at Amber Valley Wines, before a wonderful Derbyshire welcome over dinner at The Prince of Wales Baslow 🍇🍷

On the final day, the group experienced the historic spa town of Buxton through the Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust Experience, with an insightful costumed guided tour, followed by a tour of the magnificent Buxton Crescent Hotel and Sunday lunch.

They then enjoyed a private tour of Tissington Hall and Village with Sir Richard FitzHerbert before experiencing the exceptional hospitality at Wildhive Callow Hall, including a spectacular Wild Dining afternoon tea 🌳🍰

The visit concluded with a special farewell dinner at The Cavendish Hotel Baslow, hosted by Mayor of the East Midlands Claire Ward and supported by the East Midlands Combined County Authority.

Showcasing outstanding seasonal produce from the Chatsworth Estate, the evening celebrated the region’s exceptional hospitality and high-quality culinary offer.

The visit also builds on the relationships established during the Mayor’s visit to Japan last year, helping to put the East Midlands in the spotlight as a destination for high-value international tourism.

These familiarisation visits are invaluable in inspiring international tour operators, giving them first-hand experience of our destination and the confidence to develop new itineraries that encourage visitors to stay longer, explore further and discover everything our region has to offer.

A huge thank you to VisitBritain, Paul Gauger and Tomoko Hisaki for bringing this fantastic group to our region, and to all of our tourism businesses, partners and hosts whose warmth, passion and hospitality helped showcase the very best of the Peak District, Derbyshire and the East Midlands.
