For their first wedding anniversary, Vicky McClure and Jonny Owen headed to Alta in Northern Norway with Off The Map Travel.

Between stays at Trasti & Trine and Isbreen The Glacier, there was time for walking with huskies, meeting the puppies, foraging for mushrooms in the forest, fishing by a glacier and sitting down to traditional Norwegian food.

We managed to get Vicky and Jonny behind the microphones for the latest episode of our podcast, talking about travel, life away from the cameras and Vicky’s experiences filming series including Line of Duty and Trigger Point.

A conversation recorded a long way from studios, schedules and everyday life.

National Rivers Day 🇸🇪
Today, we celebrate Sweden’s wild, free-flowing rivers, the Torne, Kalix, Pite and Vindel Rivers, four national rivers protected from development.
National River Day is a reminder of the incredible value of untouched waterways.
From supporting biodiversity and wildlife to sustaining communities and landscapes, free-flowing rivers are truly life-giving.
At Off the Map Travel, we believe some of the most extraordinary adventures begin where nature is allowed to remain wild.
Here’s to protecting wild places, preserving biodiversity and keeping our rivers free for generations to come.

Tomorrow evening, look to the sky.

From shortly after 6pm on Wednesday 12th August, the Moon will begin to pass across the Sun, creating the most impressive solar eclipse visible from the UK in almost 30 years.

Across the country, around 90% to 96% of the Sun will be covered at the height of the eclipse, turning the familiar evening light into something altogether more unusual.

Find somewhere with a clear view towards the western horizon, take proper solar viewing glasses and watch as the sky puts on one of its rarest displays.

While the UK will experience a deep partial eclipse, travellers in parts of Iceland and Spain will witness totality. In Iceland, accommodation and eclipse experiences were already fully booked months ago, showing just how much anticipation has built around this rare event.

Sometimes the best journeys begin by simply looking up.

Across four Nordic borders in 21 days, this amazing journey takes you from Helsinki’s modernist architecture in the city and the glass blowing studios at Fiskars to Sweden’s thriving food scene in the centre of Stockholm and out to the remote Pater Noster lighthouse island.

From Stockholm’s design heritage, the route continues through Oslo’s art museums and Norway’s mountain landscapes, before ending among the warm cafés, galleries and quiet hygge of Copenhagen.

Finland. Sweden. Norway. Denmark. Three weeks shaped by great food, music and perfect landscapes.

One of the great pleasures of travelling through the Nordics is discovering the incredible food along the way. From generous, simple shrimp sandwiches and vibrant rainbow beetroot salads to beautifully prepared octopus, every dish celebrates fresh ingredients and simple, confident cooking.

Jonny has been feasting his way through Sweden, where the seafood is locally caught, ingredients are sourced close to home, and everything is prepared by experienced chefs who understand how to combine traditionally cooked dishes with what is available seasonally. Fresh, colourful and full of character, this is Nordic food at its best.

This new hotel is minutes from central Stockholm and has thought of everything to make your stay exceptional. is a stunning building with a “snowroom” spa and thermal area to make your stay as relaxing as possible. Jonny checked out this luxury hotel that sits on the banks of the tranquil waters of Brunnsviken, the perfect place to relax in Stockholm. The food was incredible too!
