Should school holidays be changed to make family travel more affordable and accessible for all?

I believe this would be a great solution to the current dilemma facing families and teachers - pay double or risk a fine.

If schools reduced the 6 weeks summer holiday to just 4 weeks, it would allow those extra 2 weeks to be used elsewhere in the school year to allow families the opportunity to take off-peak trips outside of the national school holiday dates.

Travel is so important for children - understanding our world comes from real experiences with people from other cultures, trying unusual foods, exploring unfamiliar cities, and asking questions about alternate lifestyles and traditions.

Real-world exposure to places across our globe builds compassion for others and appreciation for things many of our children take for granted.

After my post on Friday about MLM 'travel agents' reached THOUSANDS of you, I thought I'd share a few top tips for how to spot a real experienced agent from an MLM hustler!

𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿...

✔️An established presence - a professional website, business email, and clear terms & conditions.

✔️Independent reviews (Google, Trustpilot, Facebook), direct recommendations

✔️Specialist knowledge - a real agent will be able to speak confidently about destinations, visas, insurance and logistics.

✔️Service-first approach with a focus on your holiday, not on recruitment.

𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿...

🚩Focus on recruitment, language like “joining the team” or “making money from home.”

🚩Cookie-cutter websites – identical to dozens of others, with vague info.

🚩Hotmail / Gmail email addresses, or similar

🚩Lists other jobs in their personal bio - usually multiple 'Business Owner'

🚩Publishes their 'earnings' or amazing 'exclusive discounts'

Neuro-inclusive holiday 🌈‍♾️

I have recently come across a question on a friends page regarding neuro-inclusive travel, and wanted to highlight a couple of great properties with added features to make travelling accessible for those who’re neurodivergent.

New for 2025, TUI announced new sensory rooms at two properties - the TUI BLUE Aura in Ibiza, and TUI BLUE Nausicaa Beach in Cyprus. They provide a calming, low-stimulation environment for guests who may feel overwhelmed by busy or unfamiliar surroundings. Expect soft lighting, interactive sensory equipment and quiet zones. That’s not all, though – all staff at these hotels have taken enhanced neurodiversity awareness training, plus their Childcare Team have introduced ‘now and next boards’ to kids’ club sessions to allow kids to understand how the session flows and understand what’s coming next. They’re introducing communication cards so that children can communicate clearly with the Kids’ Club Hosts, too.

We can also add special assistance to all holidays for those who need it - we can do things like es**rt you through the airport, get you onboard first and show you around the cabin, so that you can have some extra time to get comfortable, and we can pre-allocate complimentary seats on the plane for neurodivergent passengers and a companion.

We've put together an offer, flying from Gatwick - the UK’s first nationally recognised autism-friendly airport. With an option to travel in early May for a quieter and cooler travel experience, and half term dates for those who can't travel outside of school holidays. You may have seen a recent investigative piece published by The Sun about InteleTravel, highlighting concerns over their business practices. This piece has since generated considerable conversation among the travel industry, and I wanted to share my perspective.

I’m often contacted by people with no travel experience asking about InteleTravel as a “quick” route into the profession. I now give a standard reply as I think it's important to make people consider that these schemes can be hugely irresponsible.

"For most people, a holiday is the single biggest purchase of the year, second only to things like houses or cars, and is not a decision that should be taken lightly. It should be made with the very best of advice and support, not from someone who has gained their qualifications from a few zoom calls and online training slides.

It takes YEARS to gain the experience necessary to become a responsible and reputable travel agent. The pool of knowledge acquired over a career is vast - from destination knowledge across the globe, flight routes and schedules, hotel openings, experiences that enrich journeys, as well as the less exciting things such as travel legislation, crisis management, customs and rules in other countries, and financial responsibility.

Booking a holiday carries a duty of care, it's not a 'side hustle', and I really believe it is essential to place your money and trust with the best in the industry.

For these reasons alone, I could never encourage anybody to sign up to become a 'travel agent' with one of these schemes, nor could I ever recommend anybody books with them."

This isn’t to say that all agents in such schemes are unqualified—nor that every agent outside them is perfect.

But please don't be tempted by these recruitment posts, and always look to place your holiday bookings with a reputable agent - check their reviews, their websites, and their terms and conditions, and only book with someone you trust explicitly ❤
