Mexico may be preparing for its World Cup moment, but beyond the cities there’s an altogether quieter side of the country to be found. From mezcal country in Oaxaca to jungle lagoons in the Yucatán, these are a few of our favourite retreats where nature sets the pace.

1. Hacienda San Antonio: A coral-pink colonial hacienda and working ranch, set on a 5,000-acre estate in the foothills of Colima volcano.

2. Casa Silencio: An hour from Oaxaca in the Valley of Xaagá, this six-suite mezcal retreat is built around a working distillery, set among wild agave fields and volcanic rock.

3. Hotel Esencia: A former private estate on a quiet stretch of sand in the Riviera Maya, between jungle and the Caribbean Sea.

4+5. Boca de Agua: A sustainable treehouse stay in the Yucatan jungle, on the banks of the glassy Bacalar lagoon.

The smallest - and most overlooked - country in Central America, El Salvador is stepping out of the shadows. It brings together wild beaches and world-class surf, pretty colonial towns, hikes peppered with hot springs, waterfalls and coffee plantations, a UNESCO-listed Maya site, and a string of volcanoes – all within a tiny 21,000 km² footprint.

Still little-travelled, it feels refreshingly unpolished. Road tripping is our favourite way to explore; the roads are among the best in Central America, distances are rarely far, and crossing into neighbouring Guatemala is surprisingly straightforward.

Sailing through the Galapagos is a world away from a traditional cruise. This is small ship territory: deep immersion in nature, close encounters with wildlife, and adventure at every turn. While the focus is firmly on what you’ll see and do, choosing the right boat and route plays a major part in the experience.

In our latest Field Note, we share what to consider when choosing a Galápagos cruise, and some of the vessels we return to time and again. Read more at the link in bio.

Sailing through the Galápagos feels a world away from a traditional cruise: this is small-ship territory, immersed in nature, with wildlife and adventure at every turn. While the experience is ultimately about what you see and do, your choice of boat and itinerary shape everything that follows.

For travellers heading to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, is always at the top of our list. Set in the foothills of Machu Picchu, it is both an extraordinary place to stay and a shining example of how tourism can contribute positively to local communities.

Created by Petit and Franz Miribel, it was built to support their Sol y Luna Foundation, which has spent decades working to alleviate poverty in rural Urubamba. Its profits fund a children’s home and a school, supporting young people growing up in some of Peru’s most disadvantaged communities.

When Jill and her partner came to us looking to explore Chile and Argentina, we designed a 16-night journey through some of our very favourite corners of both countries: stargazing in the Atacama Desert, trekking in Torres del Paine, sipping wine in the Uco Valley, and learning to tango like Porteños in Buenos Aires. Here’s what Jill had to say about the experience.

“We experienced excursions that we didn’t know were options, hotels that were beyond amazing, and service/responses from our amazing concierge that made us wonder if she was getting enough sleep. Thank you to the incredible team at PSA, we will be talking about this trip for years to come.”

Salvadoran artist José Campos, known as , creates a world where people are empowered to tell their own stories.

Displaced from El Salvador during the Salvadoran Civil War, he arrived in the United States as a child migrant, travelling overland with his mother and growing up without legal status. Now based in Margate at Tracey Emin’s TKE Studios, his work draws on personal history and folklore, with bold, self-possessed figures that push back against invisibility and reframe what Salvadoran identity can look like.

We caught up with him to talk about the meaning behind Studio Lenca, the growing creative scene in El Salvador, and how he spends his time when he’s back there. Read the full interview at the link in bio.

Happy 100th birthday to the great Sir David Attenborough - a man who has done more to transform our relationship with the natural world than anyone else.

We are long-time supporters of the , of which Attenborough is a key patron. Every trip with Plan South America includes a $250 per person donation, matched by us - all of which goes into direct-action conservation work where it is needed most. As he himself once remarked, “The money that is given to the World Land Trust, in my estimation, has more effect on the wild world than almost anything I can think of.”

No visit to CDMX feels complete without spending time in the world of Luis Barragán, the mid-century Mexican architect whose use of colour, light and shadow has become part of the city’s visual identity. From the pink walls and reflecting pools of Cuadra San Cristóbal to the lava fields of Casa Pedregal, his buildings are now a site of pilgrimage for design lovers from around the world. Casa Estudio Luis Barragán, where the architect lived and worked until his death in 1988, is his masterpiece.

At the very end of the world, Tierra del Fuego takes its name from fire. When explorer Ferdinand Magellan sailed past the archipelago in 1520, he named it after the flames he saw along the shore - bonfires kept burning by the Selk’nam and Yaghan people, who relied on them for warmth, even lighting small fires aboard their canoes when fishing its cold waters.

Today, it still feels wonderfully elemental. An expedition here might see you hiking ancient lenga forests, riding across vast pampas sprinkled with roaming guanacos, sailing glacial fjords, and visiting the homes of settler families who’ve made a life here for generations.
