Let’s talk p💩💩 😂

After a drastically dry summer turning our paddocks into brittle, dusty grass, followed by heavy showers landing on bare soil, we’ve had to make a difficult decision…

Paddock sweeping is no longer going to be part of our service.

And honestly, it’s not a decision we’ve made lightly.

Our trusty paddock sweeper has been part of the Mill Farm set-up since we started, and we’ve always offered field clearance as part of our service. But the ground conditions are becoming more challenging every year, and the amount of bookings we now have means the machine simply isn’t coping with the workload or the time frame needed to leave the paddocks looking how we want them to.

More importantly, the sweeping is now doing more harm than good. It’s pulling up what little root growth is left, disturbing the soil and absolutely battering paddocks that we spend a lot of time and money re-seeding, fertilising and spraying.

So, going forward…

💩 POO PICKING IS COMPULSORY. 💩

We’ve supplied plenty of poo-picking equipment and have two poo trailers out in the fields, positioned in close proximity to the paddocks to make it as easy as possible.

We know this is a change, and it’s not one we’ve made for convenience. It’s about protecting the paddocks and making sure they remain in the best condition possible for everyone using them.

We’ve worked really hard on the fields this year and, quite frankly, we need to give them a fighting chance! 😂🌱

As part of K Welch Equestrian livery services on site she will be offering poo picking subject to availability and booking so if that’s something of interest to add on to your stay pop her a message 🥰

If you have any questions about your booking or this change, please just pop us an email and we’ll be happy to help. 😀

CAMC review

We post a lot about the horse livery side of the business, but in all honesty, it was our little 5-pitch caravan site that started this journey over 25 years ago. ❤️

It opened our home to guests for the first time and began our diversification on the farm, because the reality is that small farms just don’t make it solely off the field anymore.

Fast forward to a big relocation and a brand-new site later… and we’re still here! 🥰

We’re incredibly lucky to have so many guests who return year after year — and who stuck with us through the move, trusting us with a booking on a site that hadn’t even been built yet!

Three months into the new site, everyone seems to be loving it, and honestly, so are we. There’s something really special about welcoming familiar faces back and proudly showing you your new spot to settle into and call home for however long you’re here.

We’ve just received the sweetest email review and, with their permission, had to share it:

“After 16 fabulous annual holidays at Mill Farm, we would like to congratulate you on creating a fantastic CL.
We did wonder if you would better the old CL (now sadly a building site), but it’s surpassed our expectations of what an excellent CL should be. You and the family work extremely hard to make our stays a pleasant one. Don’t lose sight of what is important and all your hard work will see Mill Farm go from strength to strength in the coming years.
See you all in June 2027 (already booked). Once again, thanks.”

With the most stunning photo attached, I just had to share it. ❤️

Comments like this remind us how lucky we are to have such amazing guests.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us this year, trusted the process, and come along for the ride.

We hope you love the finished project as much as we do. ❤️

We all forget things when we’re going away! It doesn’t matter how many lists you write or how organised you are… sometimes it just happens 🤷🏼‍♀️

Over the years, we’ve had guests forget just about everything there is to forget… including tents, tent poles, pegs, bridles, saddles, boots, stirrups, leathers, bandages, high-vis and plenty of other personal items too 👀

Although I didn’t lend mine out… 😂

We aren’t shy of lending things out because, when you’ve made it all this way, it would be gutting for something simple to ruin or stop your holiday. So, of course, we dig deep and see what we can do!

When I get items returned in the post like this, however, it makes me want to lend them out to everyone! 🥰

How incredibly kind and thoughtful. 🥰🥰

It’s little things like this that really do make our day! ❤️

Our ban on instant bbqs, coal bbqs and fire pits remain in place until H20 floods us (almost hoping) and reduces the risk of fires 🤞🏼

However in more positive news it’s been the absolute year of sunsets on the farm. With the view spread across Wells and Holkham marshes and back to back days of sunshine we have been blessed with pretty sunsets!

If you took any this summer on our new site send them across or pop them in the comments! We are a sucker for a sunset 😍📸

If you live in Norfolk, you should have just received a message from the government to your phone saying that we are in a high-risk area for wildfires and issuing guidance.

We are not responsible for stopping people from undertaking the activity below, so please do not call 999 unless it's a genuine emergency, as you may be blocking our call handlers from taking other calls.

If you did not receive the message, then please read it below:

------------------------------------------------

Issued by the UK Government

There is a very high risk of wildfires nationally. Residents, landowners and visitors should not undertake any activity that could start a fire, including disposable barbecues, firepits, garden incinerators or fireworks. Even a small flame can rapidly develop into a major wildfire placing lives, homes, businesses and emergency responders at risk.

Follow official updates and report signs of fire immediately by calling 999. Search gov.uk/alerts for more information.

------------------------------------------------

Please do not be alarmed but continue to follow all the safety guidance in the message. Together we can all help keep Norfolk safe. Thank you.

We love dogs 🐕

Big dogs, little dogs, all of them!

What we don’t love?
Clearing up after your dogs!
Today we cleared up an obscene amount of dog mess from our horse area.

We love being dog friendly and seeing all the dogs on their holidays but unfortunely if people don’t clear up after their dogs there’s a high chance we will stop accepting dogs and you won’t be able to bring them which would be such a shame!

High tide

We are expecting high tides this week along the North Norfolk coast so with even how vast Holkham beach can be when the tide is out it does mean the sea also can come right in too!

So with this in mind we have had a polite reminder from Holkham estate car park attendants to please check tide times before you plan your ride. They can easily be found on google and most weather apps showing high and low tide each day and what time they will occur.

Also worth checking if it’s your first visit to a beach on our back or even as a little refresh here is a recent article from BHS on riding at a beach!
