Vicars’ Close is a beautiful and historic highlight within Wells 🏰✨

The Close was built over 650 years ago to house the Vicars Choral of the Cathedral Choir, and it continues to be inhabited by their successors today.

It is a unique site, physically connected to Wells Cathedral by the Chain Gate, and reputedly the oldest intact medieval street in Europe (1348) still used for its original purpose.

Art, nature and beautiful views come together at Stoberry Park Garden this September.

From 5 September to 4 October, the private gardens overlooking Wells Cathedral will host Beyond Horizons, Sculpture at Stoberry Gardens, a new sculpture exhibition featuring more than 70 sculptors from Somerset, across the UK and beyond.

Set among the gardens, woodland and countryside views, the exhibition explores the theme of Connectivity, with sculptures thoughtfully placed throughout the landscape.

Visitors can explore the gardens, discover contemporary sculpture and enjoy refreshments along the way, with a selection of artworks also available to purchase.

The Wells Moat Boat Race is back! 🛶

Get ready for one of Wells’ most entertaining August Bank Holiday traditions!

Tomorrow (Monday 31 Aug) from 11am, crews will take to The Bishop’s Palace moat for a day of racing, fancy dress, creative rafts and plenty of fun 🏁

Enjoy various races throughout the day, including the Grand Parade, junior and adult races, obstacle and rescue races, plus prizes for the Best Fancy Dress and Best Designed Raft.

Racing resumes at 3pm with the finals, so come along, cheer on the crews and enjoy the spectacle! 💙
