Brynelin Viaduct

Trains are running every day during August. Our short video shows The Earl crossing Brynelin Viaduct. This massive stone structure spans what appears to be a tiny stream, however, after heavy rain it becomes a raging torrent.

822 The Earl lifts a train up the short 1:29 (3.4%) climb onto Brynelin Viaduct and on towards Cyfronydd station.📷 – Planned location filming by W&LLR staff.

🚂Alteration to Train Services🚂

Unfortunately, due to operational reasons, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel the following services:

10.30 Llanfair departure on Saturday 9th August
11.45 Welshpool departure on Saturday 9th August

All trains on Sunday 10th August.

10.00 Llanfair departure on Monday 11th August.
11.15 Welshpool departure on Monday 11th August.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for helping to preserve heritage rail through Mid-Wales.

Trains Running Every Day In August

As part of the Gala at the end of the month there will be a Garden Railway Exhibition in Llanfair High School on Saturday 30th August ONLY. Connecting mini buses will run between Llanfair Station and the School.

Vintage Trains Weekend

The replica Pickering carriages will be running this weekend plus there will be a second train set featuring some of the Austrian carriages (former Zillertalbahn or SKGLB).

Temperatures last weekend were almost unbearable
It was warm enough for those of us in regular railway attire. Please spare a thought for Malachibear, Chairbear and Albear who kept popping up at most of the stations as the trains went past.

We have mid-week trains on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 15/16/17th July. Due to the continued drought and consequential high fire risk the Diema diesel will be in use.

Steam This Weekend

Sir Drefaldwyn, 699.01, is rostered this weekend when the Yellow timetable will be in operation. The loco is now back in traffic after the fabrication and installation of a new ashpan.

The following weekend (12/13th July) is the Teddy Bears Picnic event - don't forget to bring your own special bear.
