Whilst working from home today in Watermead (Aylesbury, Bucks), all of a sudden I heard a great commotion from all of the birds outside. As I peered from my living room out onto my balcony I saw a huge dark shadow lifting from behind the line of trees to my right. As it loomed up & over, & across the small lake I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. A young WHITE-TAILED SEA EAGLE!
It passed right past my patio doors at treetop hight, surveying the geese below, then carried on South over Aylesbury town centre!
For those that don’t know, their wingspan is up to 2.5 metres (8 feet)!

This bird was not ringed or fitted with a satellite transmitter, & I have since had confirmation from the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation that it is not one of the birds from the Isle of Wight release scheme, & hence not the bird seen around the M40 Oxon/Bucks area, which was from that scheme. Instead this is likely a wandering bird from Continental Europe, possibly Sweden.
