This photo is of the 2017 launch of the Glen Sannox at Ferguson's shipyard in Port Glasgow. She is the first dual fuel ship in the world. She uses the standard marine gas oil, but also LNG which is said to be greener. Complications caused by using such untested technology as well as contractual issues meant that she was delivered into service vastly over budget and well behind schedule. In fact, she only started serving the Isle of Arran last week! Islanders aren't amused.

Recently, on my way to a gig, I checked out this monument celebrating the Declaration of Arbroath, one of the World's great constitutional documents. It was the first to expressly say that rulers hold their power by the consent of the people and as such has been a major influence on the American Constitution as well as providing the basis of Scotland's distinctive and separate tradition of popular sovereignty. The figure on the left is Bernard of Kilwinning, thought to be the author, and to the right is King Robert the Bruce. Freedom! πŸ΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ ΏπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²

Merry Christmas from my adopted home town of Dalry, the only place I know which has underpants for Christmas lights. Has anyone else seen such unfortunately designed decorations? 😟

Seasons greetings to you all and see you in the New Year. πŸ˜€πŸŽ„

Today is my last tour of the season and what better place to go to than Argyll's historic capital of Inverary, home of the Duke of Argyll, chief of Clan Campbell. Behind me is a wonderful example of a Medieval Celtic Cross. This will be my last tour until April next year, but I will still go and visit some interesting places around Scotland and I'll be sure to share them with you. πŸ˜ƒ

Today I'm in Freedom Square. Behind me is Glasgow City Chambers, opened by Queen Victoria in 1888. There perhaps isn't another building better than this one of giving you an idea of the wealth that once came through this town.

Back in Edinburgh again, twice in one week! Behind me is the headquarters of RBS or the Royal Bank of Scotland, a beautiful building both inside and out. Up until the banking crisis of 2007/8, it was the largest banking group in the world. Unfortunately, it was one of those banks that went bust and had to be bailed out with public money. These days it is still very big, but not quite as big as it was! πŸ™„

Today I'm back in Edinburgh. I'm standing outside of Mary King's Close. Named after a wealthy merchant burgess, this close or building entrance way has been a place where numerous sightings of ghosts have been made since the 17th C. πŸ‘»
