Iona 2000 → Iona 2027

Yesterday we rediscovered something very special — the original write‑up from the first ever Iona Pilgrimage David our Founder organised back in April 2000 for his own church. It was written by a young girl who travelled with her parents on this experience. Her words captured the turquoise water at Fionnphort, the seal watching the ferry, the quiet ruins of the Nunnery, the Celtic crosses, and the candlelit warmth of Michael Chapel.

Reading it again after 26 years reminded us of something important:
the heart of this journey has never changed.

The experience has evolved over the years — new hotels, new inclusions, new pacing — but the core remains exactly the same: companionship, landscape, heritage, and the quiet beauty of Scotland’s sacred west.

Some parts of those early itineraries now belong to history.
Torosay Castle & Gardens closed in 2012.
The Isle of Mull Railway ran its last service in 2011.
Both featured in our early pilgrimages up to 2005, and they hold a fond place in our story.

But in 2027, something beautiful comes full circle.
For the first time, our guests will stay on Iona itself — waking up to Abbey bells, walking the island at dawn, and experiencing the peace that pilgrims have sought for over 1,400 years.

From 2000 to 2018 to 2027…
this journey has always been about people, place, and the moments that stay with you.
