A bittersweet goodbye to Whitby’s iconic whale bones.

A gift to Whitby from its Alaskan twin town, Barrow, the whale bone arch has stood as a beloved landmark for generations. Exposure to the elements has sadly led to a deterioration in its condition, bringing the end of an era.

A bronze replica of the arch is set to replace it early next year, ensuring that this much-loved symbol of Whitby will live on and continue to be woven into the memories of residents and visitors alike.
