The debate about who does the best breakfast in Whitby is almost as fierce as the debate over who does the best fish and chips. 🥓😋

Whenever the question arises, one cafe always seems to get the most votes. Rated by locals as the best place for a proper, good value Full English Breakfast in Whitby, the Singing Kettle has been filling bellies and warming hearts for decades. After a recent winter shutdown, the Singing Kettle is now back open and serving delicious breakfasts again. There is no better way to start the day.

The Royal Hotel is no longer seen as Whitby's white elephant on the West Cliff. It is being restored to its former Victorian glory.

Over the years, the Royal Hotel in Whitby has had its share of problems. People often said it was outdated, needed major repairs, and was not well cared for. Guests complained about dirty rooms, rotting window frames, poor heating, and low-quality food. The hotel went into administration in 2020, but reopened with new management in 2021.

In 2024, the Royal Hotel changed owners again. Now managed by the Fat Badger Group, it is being brought back to life with stylish renovations throughout. The building feels warm and welcoming as soon as you enter the reception. The main bar, called "The Fat Badger," is full of energy, laughter, and a lively atmosphere.

Renovations are still underway and will take a few more years to finish the whole building, but the hotel is already starting to feel like it belongs in an Agatha Christie novel.

We’re looking forward to seeing the renovations continue as this great building becomes the jewel of the Yorkshire Coast again.

If you visit Whitby in 2026, consider stopping by the bar or restaurant, which are open to the public, or stopping in the hotel to see the changes for yourself.
