Another lovely place for our guests to visit! Especially those that bring their furry friends 🐶 with them. Jesmond Dene is a public park on the outskirts of skirts of Newcastle. A unique haven of peace and tranquillity. There is a spectacular mix of native and exotic trees and stretches over 3km housing so much wildlife such as the Red squirrel 🐿️ , Kingfisher and many woodland birds 🐦 There are a large network of paths and bridges and it even has its own waterfall. Part of The Dene houses a Pet’s Corner and Children’s playground. There is also a Park run every Saturday morning 🏃‍♀️ Jesmond Dene can be accessed best from Jesmond or West Jesmond Metro Stations. 11/12 stops from Whitley Bay and around a 15minute walk to the Dene itself from the metro. Right beside Jesmond Dene is Armstrong Bridge, an impressive Victorian Bridge that has a food market every 1st and 3rd Saturday in the month from 10am till 3pm. The market features a variety of local food and drink producers, street food vendors, and craftspeople. You can find fresh produce, artisan bread, cheese, meat, and sweet treats, as well as enjoy delicious street food for lunch. It is completely free to attend. No tickets required 🎫

What a fabulous weekend of sun, sea, sand, sangria and taking the family to as many of our favorite places in 48 hours that we possibly could manage 😂😂 They are definitely going to have to visit again though, still loads left 😂😂🍾🍷🍸🍹☀️😎 Started on Friday evening at Ships Cat for great food and fab cocktails followed by Allards at the Quay, Saturday breakfast had to be at Cafe Thirteen!! Sun came out and so we walked to Tynemouth, stopping for a Sangria or two at Salthouse. A little pit stop at Pleased to meet you in Tynemouth before going to Vineyard 72 for lunch! This was the highlight of the weekend for our family. A quick coffee at No Fret, a cocktail or three in The Champagne Bar and a fabulous end to our magical day in Shampan!! Beach House on Sunday morning before our guests set off for home! 🚗 😢

Whitley Bay has hit the headlines again 🥳

Whitley Bay has been named in ‘one of the top 10 UK's top coastal getaways' as part of an Airbnb campaign to encourage Brits to "unfollow the crowd" this summer.

Airbnb said of Whitley Bay “Once a classic holiday haunt in its Victorian heyday, Whitley Bay is now reclaiming its position on the travel map for all the right reasons.

Its golden sands, heritage promenade, and the dramatic backdrop of St Mary’s Lighthouse make it a perfect candidate for a seaside revival that values experience over exposure.

Unlike crowded southern resorts, Whitley Bay offers a more laid-back pace, ideal for travellers looking to enjoy life among locals, stroll along the coast, grab fish and chips without a queue, and reconnect with nature.”

If you’re coming to Whitley Bay our top picks for places to stay are
Helen's Place
The Metropolitan Bed & Breakfast Whitley Bay
and Southcliff Holiday Apartments

Did you go to the Sam Fender concert last weekend? Our weekend guests were there and obviously thought the concert at St James’s Park was fantastic but they were also delighted as to how easy it was to get to St James’s Park on the metro from Whitley Bay. Less than 30 minutes on the metro itself which takes you to the station, a 2 minute walk from the ground itself. So whether you are a football fan attending a match, a guided tour of the stadium or a concert you can couple it with a stay at the coast.

It’s always easy to talk about our beautiful coastline and the walk in either direction from The Beach Hideaway to St Mary’s lighthouse or Cullercoats, Tynemouth and beyond but have you thought about some of the local nature reserves and walks? These are especially good if you bring your furry friends 🐶 🐕 to stay with you. Today we went to the Brierdene, only a 15 minute walk from The Beach Hideaway, however free parking is also available. The Brierdene consists of a mixture of woodland, parkland and a small freshwater stream. Originally an uncared for area but thanks to a group of volunteers is now an award winning wildlife location. In total it houses 126 species of birds, 21 species of butterfly 🦋 , 15 species of bumblebee 🐝 , 165 types of moths and 327 species of trees!! 🌳 ♥️

On our last post, we looked at the many places to visit whilst travelling on the 🚇 at Cullercoats, Tynemouth & North Shields. Staying on the Yellow line, we are going to go slightly further! Wallsend : 16 mins & 8 stops from Whitley Bay. A five minute walk from Wallsend Metro
station can take you to Segedunum Roman Fort, Baths & Museum. Open daily from 10am to
5pm you can see the collections excavated from the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s. There is also an
audio tour that you can take of the outdoor Roman Fort site.
Chillingham Road : 10 stops from Whitley Bay. Heaton Park is a 15 minute walk from the
metro station. It features a range of play park rides, pleasant walks, a bowling green and
Sambuca’s Italian eatery 🍝 offering al fresco dining.
Byker or Manors : 11/12 stops from Whitley Bay. A 10 to 15 minute walk will take you to
Ouseburn Farm. 🐖 A registered charity and totally free to visit. Located in a stunning position
underneath three soaring bridges, Ouseburn Farm is a green oasis in the heart of Newcastle.
You can find grazing animals, you can get up close and personal with small furry animals 🐰 and
reptiles. 🐍 There is also a well-stocked garden and orchid 🌳 that you can explore too.
Seven Stories, The National Centre for Children’s books 📕 is also located in the centre of
Ouseburn. Well worth a visit, check out the website for exhibitions, storytelling, workshops
and educational days. Entry is free and there is a fabulous book shop and a café.
The Victoria tunnel can also be found near here. A preserved 19th century wagonway under
Newcastle built originally to transport coal but then converted to an air raid shelter in 1939.
You can take a tour, learn about its construction, what life was like in a Victorian Wagonway
or indeed how tough life was in the World War 2 air raid shelter. You will also hear about
the paranormal mysteries 👻 surrounding the tunnel and learn of the landmarks that you are
walking beneath including the unique chance of walking underneath Hadrian’s Roman Wall.

Love to try new places to recommend to our guests. Located at Grand Parade on the sea front, Tynemouth is a new place called Durano Lounge. Set in what was the old Toy Museum and before that a Roller Rink that many of us locals can remember fondly visiting as children. We had some great food and cocktails and the staff were fantastic!! Lovely little nod to its past with the roller skates above the bar. A really lovely walk from the Beach Hideaway, straight along the seafront, about 25-30 mins or less than a 10 minute drive. It’s also situated directly across from Tynemouth Park and alongside a fabulous ice cream shop called Scorchio!! 🍦🍹🛼
