Hello, fellow travellers! 🌊🚢
I’m Claire Hunt, usually behind the scenes at Westway Travel, but this time, I’m sharing my experience as a first-time cruiser!
Before my first cruise, I had a few worries—I thought I might struggle with motion sickness, that everything would feel too rigid and crowded, and that I’d be stuck at the same dining table every night. But I couldn’t have been more wrong—it turned out to be one of the best holidays I’ve had in years! 💙
I sailed on Cunard’s Queen Victoria, which is considered one of the smaller ships, with just 2,000 guests. The balance was perfect—busy days with ballroom dance lessons and guest speakers, quiet moments in the library or taking peaceful strolls around the wraparound deck.
My top tip? If you can, stretch your budget for a balcony cabin. At the end of each day, my husband and I would sit outside with a G&T and watch the sunset—one of our favourite rituals. 🍸
Dining was another surprise! Gone are the set tables at fixed times. On Victoria, there were plenty of options—from themed buffets to à la carte, and even specialty restaurants. You could dress up for Gala nights or keep it casual—there was something for everyone. 🍽️
And the best part? Waking up in a new destination every day—Rome, Corsica, Villefranche, Monaco, Pisa, Barcelona… Each day brought a new adventure. Some guests booked excursions, but I loved the freedom of hopping on a bus into town and exploring at my own pace. 🌍
Huge thanks to the Westway team for helping me pick the perfect ship and itinerary for my first cruise. If you’re new to cruising or a seasoned traveller, we’re here to help you find the cruise that suits your style.
As for me? I’m already planning next year’s trip! ✈️
