Last week I had the pleasure of visiting Pirin Golf & Country Club in Bulgaria, and I have to say it exceeded all expectations.

The transfer from Sofia Airport took around 1 hour and 45 minutes, although with the stunning scenery along the way, it certainly didn't feel that long. As we approached the resort, the views became increasingly spectacular, with the beautiful Bansko Mountains providing a breathtaking backdrop.

From the moment we arrived, the staff were friendly, welcoming and professional. The first impression of the resort was fantastic, with a real alpine and ski-resort atmosphere throughout the complex.

The hotel accommodation was excellent, with spacious, comfortable rooms and superb facilities. The spa was outstanding, and after a round of golf, the three heated outdoor pools were an absolute revelation and the perfect place to relax.

I managed to play the course several times during my stay. The layout reminded me a little of Black Stork in Slovakia, with generous fairways, large greens and towering pine trees lining many of the holes. The front nine offers some truly stunning views of the Bansko Mountains, making it one of the most scenic golf courses I've played.

The back nine starts with a few quirky and memorable holes, including the 12th, a short par 4 of around 240 yards. To play it conventionally, you need to hit approximately 200 yards straight before turning sharply right around a dramatic dogleg. However, the more adventurous golfer can attempt to drive the green directly over the towering pine trees that surround it. It's certainly a hole that gets everyone talking!

The course finishes strongly, with several excellent closing holes and more spectacular mountain views. Another great feature of the resort is the three practice holes, all par 4s, which are ideal for warming up before your round or for those who are new to the game.

Away from the golf, the resort offers six restaurants, including Italian, Greek and Asian cuisine. Every meal we had was excellent, and the overall food quality throughout the resort was superb.

Pirin also offers an all-inclusive golf package that includes unlimited golf, and in my opinion, it represents excellent value and is well worth considering.
