🍃 ✨ NEW WALK GUIDE ALERT! ✨🥾
A brand new FREE printable walk guide has just landed on Cotswolds Hikes & Trails! 💚
📍 Cromwell Seat Walk
At 2.5 miles, this may be one of the shorter walks on the page, but don’t underestimate it! The climb certainly gets the legs and thighs working 💪🥾, but trust me, the views at the top make every step worthwhile.
🌿 Standing beside the historic Cromwell Seat, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views over Winchcombe and the rolling Cotswold countryside.
📖 A little local history…
Local legend says this spot marks where Thomas Cromwell, chief minister to King Henry VIII, watched the destruction of Hailes Abbey during the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the late 1530s. The stone monument itself was actually built much later, during Victorian times, to commemorate the story. Historians believe the abbey may not have been burned as legend suggests, but it was stripped of its wealth and eventually left to ruin. Today, Cromwell Seat stands as a fascinating reminder of one of the most dramatic periods in English history.
🍎 Once you’ve finished the walk, why not call in at Hayles Fruit Farm? Treat yourself to a well-earned coffee and slice of cake, browse the farm shop, or enjoy an ice cream while taking in the countryside. It’s the perfect way to finish the day. ☕🍰
Whether you’re looking for a quick morning adventure, somewhere to stretch your legs, or a rewarding climb with incredible views, Cromwell Seat is a hidden Cotswold gem that’s well worth exploring. 💚
