The Windsor Lady (The Queen and her Corgis, Bachelors Acre)

The Windsor Lady is one of four memorials to Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012 and it’s located in Windsor’s Bachelors Acre. The Windsor Lady was a gift from a Maidenhead sculptor, Lydia Karpinksa. The statue depicts Queen Elizabeth II surrounded by six Corgis.

Did you know? Most people had never heard of Corgis until 1933 when they saw a photograph of a seven-year-old Princess Elizabeth holding a Corgi puppy at Glamis Castle. Queen Elizabeth II owned Corgis and the cross breed, Dorgis, for the rest of her life.

Bachelors Acre is a lovely little park in the town centre – perfect for a picnic and taking a break for some quiet, during your visit to Windsor; it features a small children’s playground, refreshments outlet, seasonal water fountains, benches and public toilets.

🦌The Long Walk & Deer Park

No view better captures Windsor Great Park’s royal grandeur than The Long Walk and no landscape better reveals its history than the Deer Park.

Windsor Great Park has hosted Royalty since William the Conqueror’s victory at the Battle of Hastings. Over the centuries it was enjoyed for its riding, hunting and stunning scenery. It wasn’t until William IV, that the Windsor Great Park was opened to the public, allowing visitors from far and wide to experience its splendour for themselves.

Entry is free to all public areas of Windsor Great Park, except for the Savill Garden. Car Parking charges apply. Windsor Great Park is open year round from 7am to dusk.

🦌Please note that occasionally the upper part, forming the Deer Park has to be closed for operational reasons, by the Park Rangers.

🦢 Windsor Swans! Always a joy to see and a much loved part of river-life along the Thames in the Royal Borough.

ℹ️ The following information comes direct from Swan Support and we hope this helps you care for our swans:

🦢 Bread isn’t bad! We know it isn’t the most nutritious (the same as a McDonald’s isn’t the best for us) but it is better than nothing. Swans have been fed bread for many years without problems and it doesn’t cause Angel Wing. Just please don’t use mouldy bread and always feed in the water!

🦢 Other options can include mixed corn/bird seed, sweetcorn, peas, floating pellets, cooked rice and porridge oats.

🦢Please ensure frozen peas/sweetcorn are defrosted before feeding.

🦢 Some food sinks so if the water is deep then consider options like bread or the floating pellets so the swans are able to get the food.

🦢 ALWAYS FEED IN THE WATER….firstly they need the water to help the food pass down their long neck but more importantly feeding out of the water leaves them vulnerable, especially to dog attacks. It may also encourage them to come out of the water in search of food and this can be dangerous if there are roads/car parks nearby.

🌳 The Copper Horse Statue, The Long Walk, Windsor Great Park 🌳

Windsor Great Park is accessible from Windsor town centre on foot via the Long Walk, or car parks are located along the A332 that goes through the Park (some of these are free, some make a charge).

Created by King Charles II in 1682-85, The Long Walk is a tree-lined avenue that stretches almost 2.5 miles from Windsor Castle up to the Copper Horse statue.

At the highest point, on Snow Hill, standing over this iconic view, is the famous Copper Horse statue depicting King George III. It was erected in 1831 to commemorate the King’s significant contribution to Windsor Great Park.

A stroll along The Long Walk is a top tip for any visit to Windsor.

Very sad news about our favourite feline friend 😿

Very sad news about our favourite feline friend 😿

Windsor, it is with the heaviest of hearts that I share the news that our beloved Dexter is no longer with us.

As you know, Dexter was given only weeks to live back in February of this year due to having progressive heart disease. Armed with very strong medication, he had been facing the world with renewed vigour these past 5 months and continuing to live his life to the fullest - much against the odds.

Unfortunately, however, on Thursday afternoon, Dexter was tragically involved in a car accident. The impact was fatal. He died in the arms of two wonderful women who had seen the event unfold, and scooped him up and wrapped him in a blanket for his final moments before taking him to Alma Vets - I'm reassured that it was fast. We visited him shortly after, and he just looked like he was sleeping.

Cats are meant to have 9 lives, I think Dexter may have had twice as many in his wonderful 13 years and all of his many adventures. I am utterly heartbroken. The past 48 hours have been incredibly hard, but I am absolutely honoured to have been Dexter's mum, and I will love him forever ❤️

Thank you to everyone who has helped me look after him along the way, and I am so sorry to be sharing this news. Please be kind in your comments ###
