Sardinia and Corsica Tour Day 14.

Our penultimate days ride and our last full day of riding took us through more of the Jura region and then through the Doubs Horloger National Park.

Our route then takes us into the Vosges and climbs the Ballon deals d'Alsace, but unfortunately it was closed due to road works, bit of route reworking and we were soon back on track riding some alternative Vosges roads.

Onwards to the Lorraine region, where the landscape changes, becoming more open farmland with long views to the horizon. Last overnight stop in Verdun and a nice meal where most went for the traditional Alsace Tart Flambé style pizza.

Off to the tunnel tomorrow and the weather is still looking good.

Sardinia and Corsica Tour Day 13.

Another misty and chilly start to our day as we headed away from the Vercours, but the sun soon came our as we pasted Grenoble and rode into the Chartreuse National Park, brilliant roads again, France reallt does know how to do a twisty!! Past Chambery and on through the Massif des Bauges, dropping down into Annecy for a spot of lunch.

We continued on, passing Geneva stopping for a photo with the lake and Mont Blanc and the Swiss Alps in the background, the last part of our journey took us into Jura mountains, with sweeping roads and pretty scenery all the way to our secluded hotel, with an amazing meal to finish our evening.

Sardinia and Corsica Tour Day 12.

Back on the Route Napoléon as we climbed out of the mist that covered Castellane in the early morning. The Route Napoléon was a great bit of road to start our day, as we continued north getting ever closer to home.

We continued up the N85 after our lunch stop, turning west to head towards the Vercors National Park which is very quiet at this time of year so we had Col de Rousset almost completely to ourselves.

Photo stop at the top, hopefully they do this cracking bit of road justice, before heading to our hotel for the evening. Past Geneva tomorrow and into the Jura mountains for our penultimate stop over.

Sardinia and Corsica Tour Day 11.

A chilly but sunny day as we disembarked our overnight ferry from Ajaccio to Toulon, some motorway to start with to get us out of town and on to the back roads of Provence. Through Provence, we headed towards Grasse, before turning north onto the Route Napoléon.

After our lunch stop we continued along the Route Napoléon, before turning off to head towards the Gorge du Verdon and the bright blue Lac de Sainte Croix, a few photos at various view points and onto our last coffee stop, before arrival our hotel in Castellane.

Another fabulous meal in a traditional French restaurant before we all retired to bed, with thoughts of riding more if the Route Napoléon tomorrow.

Sardinia and Corsica Tour Day 10.

Our route today takes us to Ajaccio for our overnight ferry back to Toulon, we had another glorious day of clear bright blue skies to great us as we headed off up the coastline before turning inland for our 1st twisty run of the day. Stopping at a view point which afforded spectacular views of the Mediterranean far below.

Following our coffee stop we continued on taking a road through a narrow gorge and then onto a wooded section which threw curve after curve at us, as we snaked our way through the pine trees. Keeping an eye out for pigs and their piglets routing around in the ungrowth by the side of the road.

Dropping back down into the coast road we had used the day before, we stopped for lunch in a beachside restaurant a lovely last stop before heading to our overnight ferry back to France.

Lots of discussion on which island was preferred, Sardinia or Corsica. Whatever the outcome both have been amazing and we look forward to visiting them both again next year.

Sardinia and Corsica Tour Day 9.

🥳🥳 the ferry is running, so down to the port for our early morning crossing to Corsica, it was still quite rolly as we set sail, reaching Corsica around 50 minutes later.

It's a spectacular entrance to the port of Bonifacio, with high cliffs either side and the fortified walls from a time gone by. Back in French territory we head away from the port using back roads up to Col De la Tana for our lunch stop, which had fabulous views over the valley below.

Onwards again, passing Ajaccio we headed to what must be one of the most stunning roads in Europe, which winds and wends its way up the west coast of Corsica. Breathtaking views of the Mediterranean to our left as the road clings to the cliff side, an amazing road to finish our day's riding.

A lovely evening meal at the harbour side in Calvi, with some tempted by the ice cream deserts to finish off with.

We have 1 day left on Corsica with the ride back to our overnight ferry to mainland France tomorrow.

Sardinia and Corsica Tour Day 8.

As they say best laid plans of mice and men! Things don't always go as planned!

A text message for the ferry company at 8pm to say our morning ferry to Corsica has been cancelled due to high swells in the narrow channel between the two islands, 🙄🤔. So we are stuck on Sardinia for an extra night, can think of worse places to have to spend an extra day.

Plan B and C were made and in the mean time we had an extra day to enjoy the local town and the hotel pool. A relaxed day with assurances from the ferry company that it would be running the following day. 🤞.

Sardinia and Corsica Tour Day 7.

Today's route started with the sublime SS125, another Sardinian Road used for motorcycle press launches and no surprise why, a fabulous mix of sweeping bends, twisty sections and all on perfectly smooth tarmac. We think it's safe to say that Sardinia has some of the best biking roads in Europe, which just keep giving, corner after corner after corner.

Our lunch stop today was at a quirky biker themed bar, with delicious toasted panini and great Italian coffee. Onwards and the scenery changed a little as we headed across the centre of the island, mountains giving way to slightly flatter farm land.

Last coffee stop in a little village, with some dark clouds overhead threatening rain, waterproofs or not was the question as it was still quite warm at about 24 degrees. Heading north again, we managed to skirt the rain, with just a few spots here and there. Arriving at our hotel in good time for a few beers on the terrace before our evening meal.

Sardinia and Corsica Tour Day 6.

Rest or ride out day today, with most of the group picking the ride out option, not a surprise considering the amazing roads on offer. Slightly overcast as we set off, but the clouds soon cleared revealing sunny skies and rising temperatures.

Passing small towns perched on the hill sides, we climbed higher into the hills, stopping for photos on the way and reaching our 1st coffee stop in a small hill side town, obviously popular with bikers.

More twists and turns as we continued our journey, the roads in Sardinia are just superb. Stopping for lunch, where a huge plate of homemade ravioli was consumed, such wonderful food!

The rest of our day consisted of more brilliant roads, another coffee stop and yet more brilliant roads.

Another great meal at our hotel and some birthday celebrations to end our day. Last ride in Sardinia tomorrow as we head north for our last night in Italy, before catching the early ferry to Corsica the following morning.

Sardinia and Corsica Tour Day 5.

A smooth overnight crossing to Sardinia completed, we started out journey down the west side of the island, skirting Alghero and joining the coast road to our 1st coffee stop.

The overcast skies we had as we disembarked, were quickly clearing as the sun came out as we stopped for some photos of the rugged coastline. A coffee stop completed we changed direction and heading inland towards our final destination on the east coast.

Sunshine still with us we stopped for lunch in a small village, then the heavens opened as we tucked into the homemade ragu pasta dish. With the rain easing we continued on, riding some amazing roads, Sardinia really is twisty central.

On to our hotel for the next 2 nights arriving in good time, allowing some of the group to hit the pool before our superb 4 course evening meal.

Day off and relax or ride out on some of the roads used by motorcycle manufacturers for bike launches, always a tough choice on a Columbus Tour!!
