Virgin Atlantic launch new route from Heathrow to Phuket.

As the only UK airline to operate this route Virgin Atlantic offer three weekly flights, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, October to March.

The 12 hour flight operates overnight so you will arrive feeling refreshed in either economy, premium economy or upper class onboard the 787-9 Dreamliner.

Phuket is the largest Thai island in the Andaman Sea. Famous for its beaches, architecture, culture, night markets and (in certain areas) nightlife. From Phuket you can also access neighboring islands such as Phi Phi, Khao Phing Kan (James Bond Island), Koh He (Coral Island), Koh Yao Yai and many more making Phuket the ideal multicenter holiday destination.

Phuket offers so many holiday experiences:

Head to Patong Beach for beach bars, markets, water sports and the famous Bangla Road nightlife.

Karon Beach for long stretches of powder sand beaches. Quieter that neighboring Patong but still plenty going on with its Temple Market and water sports.

Visit Old Town Phuket for its famous Sunday Market, history and architecture . Its also recognised by UNESCO as a 'city of gastronomy'.

Anything to speed up the UK arrival process for British citizens is great news. Now just to work on arriving at our destination....

UK airports are starting to roll out new contactless eGates.

The new technology allows passengers to pass through securely without placing their passport on a reader, making journeys up to 25% faster than using a passport at an eGate, while maintaining the UK’s border security checks.

The system uses state-of-the-art facial technology to verify a passenger’s identity before border security checks are carried out in full.

This gradual rollout begins at East Midlands Airport and is the latest step in modernising the UK’s border, helping legitimate travellers move through airports more smoothly and efficiently.

All airport eGates are set to be contactless by early 2027.
