Just beyond Woolacombe, Morte Point earns its name. Jagged rocks rise from the sea like a broken spine, shaped by centuries of wind and wave.
⛴️ Many ships never made it past these waters.
🪨 Shipwrecks, smugglers, and salvage stories still cling to the coastline.
🌊 The ocean below churns with strong tides—and seals often bob among the rocks.
🧭 Best explored from Mortehoe via the South West Coast Path. Views stretch over Woolacombe Bay, and on clear days, you’ll spot Lundy Island on the horizon.
🐦 Peregrines scan the cliffs. Fulmars nest in the rockface. Dolphins sometimes follow the coastline.
The name may sound grim, but the walk is one of the most interesting in North Devon.
