It has been such a pleasure and privilege to host you for almost five years and I thank you all for your encouragement and support.

But good news! … the cottage is to be refurbished and will soon be available again for holidays through other agencies.

Today, The Wildlife Trusts completed the purchase of part of the historic Rothbury Estate in Northumberland – with plans to secure the whole estate for the nation. An important place in the hearts of Northumbrians, the land – which includes the popular Simonside Hills – is home to rare and endangered wildlife including curlews, bilberry bumblebees, emperor moths and red squirrels.

Over the coming months, The Wildlife Trusts nationally and Northumberland Wildlife Trust plan to buy the whole estate, so that we can preserve its rich heritage for future generations and create sustainable futures with the local community, who we’ll be consulting throughout. We’ve launched a fundraising appeal to make these next steps a reality and would love for you to join us on this exciting journey! Rangers Guy and Mark have been repairing the bench seat behind the Auchope refuge hut for visitors to take a well needed break on. Guy has kindly demonstrated one of the may ways you can rest on the new bench during your adventures.
