Doorway to a lost world, the tenth century Córdoba caliphate was the epicentre of medieval thought and learning. With over 600,000 books in its great libraries, a booming publishing industry hiring over 200 female copyists, attracting academics and polymaths from across Europe, it was the medieval Muslim Grub Street.

We are currently on a recce for a sold out trip next year. ‘Art In Motion’ - a two week driving tour into the beating heart of Spanish art,history and culture. After a cosy night in the Airstreams ( and an excellent breakfast!) first stop of the day was Shelsley Walsh. This is the oldest motorsport venue in the world, with the first hill climb taking place in 1905. History pervades this place. It is full of charm and character. You can almost hear the roar of all those that have passed before, echoing through the trees that line the route. We added our own soundtrack with a few ‘brisk runs’ up the hill to take in the magnificent views at the top.

Nothing like sitting down for a great meal with friends- both old and new. In fact TDF events are often described as a “travelling dinner party”. We loved decorating the tent, creating a laid back, but stylish, alfresco atmosphere. Food and wine are an integral part of the experience and our friends at did us extremely proud. What happens when the people you rely on to buy your art (which helps you to support your family) stop coming? Adapt. Improvise. Overcome. We are very proud of our friends who are supporting some superb local artists in Limpopo, South Africa. COVID-19 has all but closed the - a social enterprise project bringing travelers and artists together. Therefore some lateral thinking was required. Instead of the people coming to see the art. The art is coming to the people. By exhibiting it through an on-line auction. Brilliant! Take 10 minutes to watch their wonderful film about the ‘Lockdown Collection’ and how art, technology and enterprise have come together to create a new way of making a connection. Some of these stunning works are still available to buy- but the auction finishes soon!

2020 has so far proved to be a very difficult year for TDF - along with many others in the travel industry. However one positive outcome has been the chance to enjoy lots of quality time with this little guy. Two years old now! Won’t be long before he’s back on the road. (In the last pic he is in his mummy’s tummy, high on a mountain, in Lesotho!)
