𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬! It's a hot topic with a LOT of opinions. I had a little ramble last week and I've saved them here on my Instagram 'highlights' under 'fines'. I point out what the rules actually are and then tell you my opinions...just incase you are interested!!

𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲...
* You will be fined if your child misses 10 sessions+ (5 days or more) within a certain time frame (check your school/LA, mine is in 10 school weeks, holidays don't count).
* The fine is £80 per child (if paid within 21 days), per parent (if both parents have parental responsibility, regardless of whether you're together, both will be fined). If not paid within the 21 days it's £160 if paid with 28 days.
*If you have a second absence within 3 years, it will automatically be at the higher amount of £160 per child, per parent and if you do it a 3rd time, you risk more than fines.

*Please be kind to school staff - they're just following the rules. They don't set these fines, the LA/Gov do. They don't even get the money really so don't take it out on staff (ex primary school deputy head here!)

*Do I agree with it - no! Holidays are SO much more expensive during school holidays and I strongly belive ALL families deserve one. It think it's really discriminatory against low income familes & neurodiverse families where the busy periods will be very overwhelming. I think all parents should be allowed 5-10 days out of school without fining. However, please don't ask school staff for work to do - that's just not fair on the teachers!
