So, the Northern Lights appeared in the skies above The Brush and Boot the other day and we missed it!! Fortunately a keen amateur photographer in the village on the other side of the valley caught it and sent the images to Auntie Beeb. Otherwise we would have never known. It would appear we left our lights on though!

Amateur photographer Chris Lowther expected images of the night sky, but not the Northern Lights.

Well it’s that time of year again. The beautiful Bluebells in the wood behind the cottage are responding to the lovely weather and because of a cancellation we actually have a week available from Friday 22nd April, so if you or anyone you know is a big Bluebell fan and fancies a break up here “on t’ ill”, please get in touch. Mention the Bluebells to get an extra discount. 🙂

We will reopen very soon (hopefully). This short video, courtesy of Joe Burn (thanks son...) really shows off what we have to look forward to with nature’s Spring and Summer loveliness just around the corner. Especially Bluebell time if you can get here. Hope you like the video.

This just happened when I took the dog out for a walk, having waited around all day for a particularly blustery wet Autumn day to relent a bit....well worth the wait I think 🙂 🌈

Well we are OPEN again. We were very pleased to welcome back our first guests yesterday to this little part of “Gods Own County”. I’ve shared just a few of the Lockdown snaps we took on our many walks around the woods and hills here over the last few months. It will be so nice to share those walks with our guests and their dogs once again. However, we can’t promise the bunting will be physically up for every guest but you get the idea. 😁

It’s great to see that Castle Howard is reopening its gardens for all visitors from the 8th June. We have been able to use the Castle Howard Farm shop during the whole of the lockdown, which has been a very convenient blessing, albeit rather pricey, as it’s our nearest grocery store. The garden centre has already reopened and there are, as ever, some stunningly beautiful walks to be had for FREE in the greater grounds around the house and gardens.

CASTLE Howard has announced that its gardens will reopen from next week.

The Bluebell wood just behind the Brush and Boot has never been so popular with walkers as it is now during the lockdown. So many people enjoying their exercise break in what is usually a very quiet wood. To start off with our dog, Ruby, barked at everyone in surprise, now she doesn’t even bother growling at them. Here she is enjoying a frolic in the bluebells yesterday.

We are still open at the moment for Key Workers only. Essential Workers with key worker statements can stay with us on a self catering basis whilst working in the area, (unfortunately not for a well earned break just yet).
As soon as we can though, we will reopen for everyone else on a self catering basis only. Hope to see you soon. 🙂

Please consider signing this petition which may help draw some attention to the many small B&B businesses like ours that urgently need the same financial help other businesses are already receiving from the government and also highlight that the greedy insurance companies are refusing to pay out, despite being supposedly covered for business interruption.
Thanks for any support you can give to this petition and hopefully we and other small independent B&B’s will still be around for you when we are all able to take a well earned holiday from all this. Stay safe, stay home and we look forward to seeing you when you can stay here again. 🙂🤞

We are big advocates in a bit of “Forest Bathing” up here on our woodland hill. There is a beautiful little Wood next to us, which we walk in daily and take in the sights and smells and sounds of the forest. If it’s good for the birds, the badgers and the deer then it’s good for us too...and the dogs really love it too, obviously 🌲🐝🦉🦌🌳🐕‍🦺
