Today we are in the north of the county in Gt Yarmouth. People can be divided about how they feel about Gt Yarmouth, but it is a treasured holiday destination for many people because of its miles of beautiful beaches.

Today we did our first multi-place tour, to find those well known but sometimes overlooked beautiful classic Suffolk places. Our itinerary was:

Kersey - Recently home to the TV series "Magpie Murders", this little village with its ford going though the middle is much a wonderful start to this itinerary, so peaceful to look at the water running though the road.

Kersey Mill - Once an old water mill, this has now been turned into a small shopping centre with a beautiful garden to explore, here we have a rest stop and had some tea.

Monks Eleigh - was there ever a more perfect "chocolate box" village that Monks Eleigh? So many wonderful houses to look at. A quick photo stop here.

Lavenham- Home to the famous Harry Potter house from Godrics Hollow, this small town has many hidden treasures to explore, including a lovely teddy bear shop and many places to eat and shop. You can also see the "crooked house" built in 1300s. The church was the most amazing stained glass windows and also has a second hand book shop inside the church.

Clare - Clare once had it's own castle and priory, both are now ruins for us to explore, but one of the most remarkable things about Clare country park is it's nearly intact abandoned train station, now turned into a museum and play area. You can also eat lunch on the platform as you wait for a train that will never arrive!

Nethergate Brewery - is a small Brewery that does tours and let's you taste 6 half pints of different beers during the tour. It has a lovely seating area as well as a fully stocked shop

Today we explored Walton-on-Naze. The tower on The Naze has been moved back from the edge of the cliff to save it going over the edge. If you see on one of the pictures, you will see that some WWII "pill boxes" have already fallen and all you can see now is the top of them as they have sunk into the sand. The tower can be visited and you can climb to the top. It also has a lovely tea room inside. There is also a visitors centre just to the side of the tower, which is free to look around

Dunwich was once the county town of East Anglia and was double the size it is now, but a number of storms in the 13th century sent much of the town into the sea. Along a little path we found the ruined monastery and the last grave in the church graveyard. The church itself and the rest of the graves are long gone over the cliff but Jacob Forester who died in 1796 is the last one left.

Today we did a short trip from Walberswick to Dunwich. There is an amazing church in Walberswick called St Andrews. It was once a larger church but due to taxes imposed by Henry VIII, only 100 years after it was built it fell into disrepair as the village couldn't pay for the upkeep, so they made the church smaller by abandoning the North side and closing it off, so now we have a church with the ruins of itself. Walberswick is a great place to go crabbing as well and is well known for attracting crowds. The estuary and sandy/stoney beach with its sand dunes are a great place to visit

Had a wonderful early morning walk along Lowestofts North beach and saw these strange houses on stilts out at sea. I asked a local and he told me they are large bird houses to encourage the sea birds to nest away from the beach and hotels to keep bird mess down.
