Inside the Southern Africa overland route that belongs on every serious traveller’s list

In this week’s newsletter, I want to talk about a different kind of travel. One that brings you the ultimate sense of adventure and freedom, and puts you in the driving seat.

And introduce you to a company that is offering this adventure of a lifetime, ZulaZula 4x4.

Because let’s be honest… who doesn’t love a good road trip?

There’s something about having your own set of wheels, especially in a vast place like Southern Africa. It’s pure, raw adventure. No guides, no other travellers, just you and your vehicle, driving through some of the most stunning scenery on earth.

You stop when something catches your eye. You stay longer when a place feels right. You take the dirt road… just to see where it goes.

And somewhere along the way, travel becomes less about the destination and more about the experiences along the way.

The region no one talks about… but absolutely should.

In today’s newsletter, I’m taking you deep into Northeast India — one of the most culturally rich and least explored regions on Earth.

But more than that… this is about a different way of travelling. Because let’s be honest, most travel today looks like this: you arrive, you look, you photograph… and you leave.
And somewhere on the journey home, you realise you didn’t really connect with the place at all.

For me, travel has never just been about the destination, it’s about people.
The stories you only hear when you slow down enough to listen. And when you do, everything changes.

This week, I’m introducing you to an inspiring woman named Julie, the founder of Curtain Call Adventures, who is creating immersive journeys through Northeast India that go far beyond surface-level travel.

Think:
staying in local homestays,
learning traditional crafts with artisans,
sharing meals with families,
walking through villages with the people who call them home.

This is travel that gives back.
That supports communities.
That stays with you long after you’ve left.

Inside the newsletter, I’m also sharing two of their very special tours, including the Hornbill Festival experience in Nagaland, plus an exclusive discount code for subscribers 👀

If you’ve been craving something deeper and off-the-beaten tourist trail, this is for you.

Some stories aren’t told… they’re woven.

In Lake Sebu, storytelling lives not in words, but in threads. Every pattern, every line, every detail holds a meaning — passed down through generations, dreamed into existence, and brought to life by hand.

This is Sebulan Dulay, a master weaver carrying forward the legacy of Lang Dulay and the sacred art of T’nalak weaving.

The T’boli believe these intricate patterns are not created, but received — gifted in dreams by Fu Dalu, the goddess of abaca. Imagine that… falling asleep and waking up with a story waiting to be woven into reality.

That’s the magic of storytelling here. It’s not about capturing a moment — it’s about honouring something far deeper. A connection. A belief. A way of life.

Huge respect to the creator behind this film for capturing it so beautifully. The way this story unfolds feels intimate, raw, and deeply human — the kind of storytelling that doesn’t just show you a place, but makes you feel it.

Tomorrow’s newsletter is one I’ve been excited to write for a while. ✨

We’re heading to Africa, my favourite continent, and I’m introducing you to the founder of Nomad Africa, who started his journey in a beaten-up Land Rover with no GPS and AC.

And like every week, you’ll have the chance to meet someone doing something extraordinary in one of the least explored countries in the world.

If Africa is on your list — or even if it isn’t yet — this one might change that.

“We left Los Angeles for a little farm by the sea. Come stay with us.” -Laura and Strader

Tucked inside Portugal’s World Surfing Reserve, Blanco Bungalow is a lovingly restored Quinta — whitewashed walls, terracotta roofs, cobblestone courtyards, and the Atlantic Ocean just a five-minute walk from your door. 🌊

Laura, Strader and their son Coyote moved from Los Angeles to Portugal in 2022 with a dream to find a little farm by the sea to raise their son Coyote in nature, surf, and be surrounded by animals — which is exactly what Blanco Bungalow became.

Wake up to the sound of the sea. Detox in their wood-fired barrel sauna. Say hello to mini ponies. Book a surf guide, private yoga, or a natural wine tasting at the Bodega. Or simply do nothing — you’re in Portugal. ☀️

Choose from four uniquely designed casas sleeping 2–14 guests.

Casa Corazón · Casa Palo Verde · Cowboy Casita
· Le Surf Shack — or book the entire ranch exclusively for your group.

Only 40 minutes from Lisbon ✈️

The world is full of incredible festivals. Here are 5 of our favourites. 🐻🎭🦅

In Romania, hundreds of locals dress in real bearskins weighing up to 50kg and dance through the streets to drum out evil spirits. In Bulgaria, demon-masked kukeri parade through winter mist ringing enormous copper bells. In a remote corner of northeast India, 16 ancient tribes gather in feathered war dress for a celebration unlike anything else on earth. In Hungary, horned figures in sheepskin cloaks literally chase winter out of town and burn it on a bonfire. And in Poland, women send flower crowns down moonlit rivers on the summer solstice — just as they have for centuries.

If you’ve been craving a reset this year in stunning surroundings… this is it.

📍 Lana, South Tyrol
Vineyards. Apple orchards. Mountain air.

And right in the middle of it all, Hotel Schwarzschmied

Created by the Dissertori family, Schwarzschmied was designed as a space where you can switch off — and reconnect. Host Klaus Dissertori built it around one idea: that a stay here should inspire you to live more consciously long after you leave.

Picture morning laps in the heated outdoor pool facing the vineyards.
Ginger tea as the sun rises.
Two daily yoga sessions with rotating teachers.
Guided hikes and cycling through the Merano mountains.
A 1,000m² spa with saunas overlooking the peaks. 😍

✨ During the Yoga Light Week (running throughout 2026) you can expect the following to be included:
– 5 nights
– 9 yoga sessions
– Daily active programme (yoga, hikes, cycling)
– €60 wellness voucher
– Access to the spa & pools
– Optional Slow Food dining

And the food is absolutely worth a trip alone… everything is regional, seasonal, and grown as locally as possible. Homemade pasta. Local alpine butter and honey. Vegan options done properly. Over 400 wines. Do I need to say more?

Would you go for the yoga, the cycling, or the wine? Or maybe all of them? 🍷🚴‍♀️🧘‍♀️
