I THOGHT I KNEW
all the iconic climbers of 20th century but that small research proved me wrong! I have read books by Bonnington, Tilman, Bonatti, Shipton, Buhl among others, yet there was a rather eccentric climber who was totally unknown to me πŸ€”
Reading about the history of climbs on forbidding Mt.Waddington I was impressed by accomplishment of two boys (brothers Fred and Helmy Beckeys, only 16 and 19 years old) who scaled it in 1942. Who were they?
Digging deeper I found this extraordinary documentary about Fred Beckey.
Highly recommended to anyone who is in love with mountains!

Fred Beckey is the the American 'Dirtbag' mountaineer whose name is spoken in hushed tones around campfires. Discover the rebel climber's pioneering ascents and lifestyle behind his inspiring legacy.

Yesterday, while driving from Tbilisi to Mestia and approaching Samtredia, I accidentally looked north and... an icy rampart of Svaneti peaks was rising above the lower ranges of Western Georgia!

THIS SEASON
I am more busy than usual and availability is limited. There still an opportunity to book hiking trips with me in October.
Even if you have visited Svaneti in summer, you won't regret coming again in autumn. October here is beyond any description!

Don't miss this rare opportunity! The person who is waiting for rope mate (or mates) to join is totally up to task πŸ’ͺ

30 METERS

We had perfect conditions and made it to the top relatively early.
Kudos to Carina and Andrew
