Our annual 'Classic Georgia' 2026 tour has come to an end. It has been a beautiful ten days, with a few weather-related ups and downs; however, overall, it has been a highly successful trip.

In the mountains, alongside numerous Great Rosefinches, Güldenstädt's Redstarts, Caucasian Snowcocks, and Caucasian Grouse, we were fortunate to observe two Lynx attempting to attack a herd of East Caucasian Tur. Raptor migration at Jvari Pass was a true spectacle.

Southern Georgia produced a number of exciting aquatic species, while in the east, the remarkable Chachuna Nature Reserve filled our list with a wide range of habitat-specific targets, including Eastern Imperial Eagle, Saker Falcon, Black Francolin, Finsch’s and Pied Wheatears, and many more.

Everything will be tailed in the upcoming trip report. In the meantime, visit enjoy some of the quickly selected photographs and perhaps, consider joining this tour in 2027.

New publication in Ardea: The eastern Black Sea coast as a principal raptor flyway in spring

We are excited to announce that the results of the first comprehensive spring raptor migration counts have been published open access in Ardea! It is a warm, nostalgic moment, as Ardea also published the results of the first autumn surveys of Batumi Raptor Count back in 2011.

Beyond quantifying the magnitude, timing, and species composition of spring migration, we compare spring and autumn migration, place our results in the broader context of the East African–Eurasian Flyway, and highlight how spring migration counts provide new opportunities for research and conservation along the eastern Black Sea Flyway.

What a phenomenal morning at the Chachuna Reserve vulture photo hide!

A breathtaking gathering of 41 Griffon and 17 Cinereous Vultures, and pairs of Eastern Imperial and White-tailed Eagles kept us busy from the very first light - an unforgettable spectacle of wings, power, and raw wilderness.

Mornings like this remind us why we love what we do.
