Georgian national cuisine is known around the world for its rich and diverse menu, making it difficult to single out any one dish. Everything here simply tastes delicious! Elegant Georgian restaurants and tiny mom-and-pop outlets alike will equally please, for while recipes may differ, their tastes and the unique atmosphere in which they are served never cease to satisfy.

In Georgia, everyone can find a variety of foods suited to their taste. Georgians love meat and fish dishes, although vegetarian and kid-friendly options are also common. Favorite national dishes among Georgians themselves include cheesy khachapuri bread, juicy khinkali dumplings, large kebabs, tapaka chicken, chakhokhbili stewed chicken, flavorful chikhirtma chicken soup, chakapuli lamb stew, lobio beans, shkmeruli garlic chicken, satsivi walnut sauce, buglama stewed lamb and kharcho beef soup.

In 1981 he founded the Gabriadze Theater which is based in Tbilisi. His productions of “Alfred and Violetta”, “The Autumn of our Springtime”, “Ramona” and “The Battle of Stalingrad” brought the theater an international recognition. It has been touring the world since then.
Strolling through the streets of old Tbilisi it is impossible to miss the theatre and its clock tower.
In 2010 Rezo Gabriadze built a unique clock tower next to marionette theatre in Tbilisi old town. Every hour an angel comes out with a small hammer to ring the bell.
There is a small puppet theatre inside the tower and twice a day at noon and at 7pm you can see a show – “The Circle of Life”.
Rezo decorated the tower with hundreds of tiles which he designed himself and the it instantly became a major architectural attraction of Tbilisi. People often call it the Tower with clock or The Tower with angel.

The history of Tbilisi's sulfur baths dates back to the city's founding in the 5th century when King Vakhtang Gorgasali discovered the natural hot springs while hunting. The city's name, Tbilisi, is derived from the Georgian word "tbili," meaning warm, a clear nod to these thermal waters. Over the centuries, the sulfur baths became an integral part of Tbilisi's urban landscape, with bathhouses built around the springs in the Abanotubani district.
Sulfur baths have played a crucial role in Georgian society, serving as a gathering place for socializing, conducting business, and even matchmaking. In addition to their recreational and social aspects, the baths were valued for their therapeutic benefits, with the sulfur-rich waters believed to have healing properties for various ailments. Today, Tbilisi's sulfur baths continue to be an essential part of Georgian culture, where visitors can immerse themselves in centuries-old traditions and enjoy a unique spa experience.

In 1883, something significant happened in the history of Old Tbilisi. A new form of public transport was launched in the shape of the “Konka,” or horse-drawn railway. Prior to that, the whole town was talking about the proud horsemen of Tiflis, their speed and self-control: “Nowhere can you find such spoiled and proud horsemen as in our city.” The “Konka” became the main topic of conversation across the city.

Dadiani Palace was one of the first European-style palaces built in the historical territory of Odishi, today known as Zugdidi.

The structure was built in the 17th century, with a thorough restoration in the 1860s that was led by an English architect. Five thousand hand-made parts and more than fifty thousand Colchic ornaments were created just to make the balconies and roofs, which, to this day, continue to fascinate locals and tourists alike.

Ekaterine Dadiani, the last queen of Odishi and mistress of the palace, had exceptional taste, which can be found in every nook and cranny of the building.

By the way, don’t be surprised if you hear Napoleon’s name mentioned in connection with the Dadianis. The Megrelian family had blood ties with the Bonapartes: Salome Dadiani was married to Napoleon’s nephew Achille Murat.

Georgian Karachokhelis were ordinary workers and craftsmen in Tbilisi. They hated injustice and fought for weak, bullied, widowed, and orphan citizens of Tbilisi. They also had their own costume – a long, black Chokha, red silk shirt, and a silver belt. As a profession, they were part of Amkari (a professional organization of craftsmen).
Kintos were street merchants who would start their day by walking in the streets of Tbilisi with huge plates full of fruits and vegetables on top of their heads. They used to be second-hand sellers. They also had their own costume, like Karachogeli, but a bit different. They wore black wide pants, polka-dot shirts, a belt, and a red scarf tucked in the belt.
Without them, it’s impossible to imagine the 19th century Tbilisi’s social life.
