The story on the concludes. Who goes in what casket design? It is usually tied up with one's profession, beliefs or interest. The medical doctor or nurse or any health worker will likely go in a syringe as displayed below. The carpenter will go in one that depicts his work like the hark sword blade, the poultry farmer in the hen coffin etc. As the saying goes in Akan, death is like a ladder and everyone will climb it one day. Its inevitable but how one departs is critical and that explains the Ghanaian tradition of elaborate funerals with fanciful caskets. A typical itinerary of our tours include expriening at first hand these coffins as you go to where they are made and learn more from the makers and see more baffling designs. It happended that a king used to ride in special palanquin built on tall poles. As unique as it was, this attracted an order from a neighbouring king in the form of a cocoa pod from the original king's carpenter. Unfortunately for this king, his order did not get completed before his death. His elders however decided to make the cocoa pod palanquin his coffin in his honour. This was to mark the beginning of the fancy coffins from the 1950's up until date. Following this first example, an apprentice of the carpenter ordered one for his mother in the form of an aircraft to honour her since she could not fulfil her dream of traveling in an aircraft one day and a tradition was thus born. Ever since its beginnings, the craft have emerged strongly with the creation of designs of all sort reflecting animals, tools, foodstuff, buildings, bottles of all sorts, automobiles, aircrafts, ships, you name them. Simply put, there is no limit on what can be designed and has already been done in the past. Stay in tourch for more on the .

In this part of the world, the bond between the living and the dead is never broken. It is one that carries on even into the afterlife. This believe therefore means that the dead impact the world of the living. If the dead is not seen of well he/she may not have a smooth passage into the next life and thus may torment the living. In other for there to be hormony between the two, it requires that the final farewell which is the funeral rite must be attended to with the best of touch. This is where the coffin comes in and one of the reasons it must be fanciful. Stay tuned for more as the story is unveiled in the series on .

My son and I had a great day on the tour. Since we had a three-hour drive from Accra to our destination (Cape Coast), I expected our tour to begin when we got to the destination, but Kelvin actually began the tour from the moment we got in the car. He taught us about the history of Accra, and as we passed through various small towns, he shared the history and customs of the different places. I was traveling with my 14-year-old son, and amazingly, Kelvin was able to keep both of us entertained during our drive. Usually my son has his earbuds in his ears listening to music when we travel, but on this drive, Kelvin had my son listening attentively and asking questions. Once we got to our destinations (Kakum National Park and Cape Coast Castle), Kelvin took care of everything we needed. He also helped us figure out what to order at a nearby restaurant so we could get a taste of Ghanaian food after our visits. Kelvin also provided us with a few extras during the tour like getting us bracelets with our Ghanaian names, stopping by a cacao tree to taste the cacao bean directly from the tree, and other stuff. It was wonderful! Thank you, Kelvin! ~ Tracy Camp USA
