The Chief of Kumbungu traditional area, Alhaji Naa Abu Iddrisu II undertook a Journey to the Dagbon capital, Yendi, for the final funeral rites of the late Over Lord of Dagbon, Ya- Na Yakubu Andani II.

As Custom and Tradition demand, the Kumbung- Naa, who is the Commander-General of the Dagbon Army, is moving with the traditional bees (Logu) and a high powered retinue to Tamale today Monday.

In light of this, it’s a custom that Pregnant women must not be seen along the road when the Kumbung- Naa approaches.

All businesses along the Kumbungu - Tamale road, through to sharp corner must remain closed.

In addition, businesses on the ADB/ Commercial Bank road through to MTN office all the way to Kalpohini must be closed until the Kumbung- Naa Passes.

On Tuesday, same exercise will be repeated from Kalpohini estate to "Sara Junction" along the Nim Avenue road, from Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) through Vitting Barrier as His Majesty continues the journey to Mion where he will be based for two days before finally setting off to Yendi on Thursday January 17, 2019.

This tradition hasn't happen in over 40 years

Live at the Fire 🔥 Festival (Tamale)
The fire festival is held by many ethnic groups in Northern Ghana. Most Muslims and Non-Muslims take part in this celebration. The fire (Bugum) festival is observed by the Muslims to mark the landing of Prophet Noah’s (Nuhu) Ark after the flood. It is celebrated in the night with bundles of grass used as torches. This is the period during which some non-Muslims make offerings to their ancestors and God since the festival marks the beginning of their new year. The Islamists believe, after the great flood during the time of Prophet Noah (Nuhu), the Ark landed in the night and torches were lit to enable Prophet Noah (Nuhu) and his people see whether they were on land. Hence, the festival is held to mark this important night when the Ark landed after the great flood. The Traditionalist are of a different view that, one great king lost his son and when night fell, a search party had to light torches (flash lights) in order to search for the prince in the night. This incident was very remarkable in their history. Hence, the fire festival is held annually to mark that important occasion.
