What Happens at a Ghanaian Naming Ceremony?

In many Ghanaian traditions, a child is given their name in a ceremony surrounded by family and elder. A name day represents a first, formal welcome into community.

A naming ceremony is one of the most meaningful moments many guests experience with us. Real elders, real blessings, a real welcome by name. It's not staged for cameras. It's a genuine tradition, opened up to guests who want to be part of it.

Assin Manso was once the site known as "the last bath".

It was the final stop for enslaved people before the coast, where the river was used before the final part of a forced journey.

Today, it's also home to memorials honoring returned remains of ancestors. It's quiet here, and it's meant to be. This stop isn't about spectacle, it's about understanding a part of history that shaped the diaspora's story, at a pace that respects it.

Every batik pattern tells you something. What will yours say?

Batik in Ghana isn't printed. It is painted and stamped by hand, one wax layer and one dye bath at a time. A design is pressed onto the fabric in hot wax using carved wooden or foam stamps, then dyed, then waxed again for the next layer of color.

Many of the patterns draw straight from Adinkra symbols, so the cloth carries meaning long before it's ever worn .

Taking a Batik Making class during a Ghana tour adds depth to your experience. Our guests get to choose their own patterns and make a piece that means something to them.
